We were lucky to catch up with Eric Anthony Bush recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric Anthony, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
After being in the hospitality industry and running multi-million dollar restaurants for over 10 years, I decided to go out on my own and use my work ethic to make a better life for my family. My family and close friends believed in the idea, and helped me create everything that I do. Nothing gets done without their approval. I knew it would be successful due to the way we treat people. Our team really cares about your experience. If you’re having a bad day, make sure you come by and we’ll change that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the hospitality business by being relentless. One of my mentors Billy Rogers trusted me and gave me a chance, little did we all know I would take off and run this marathon. I knew little about the restaurant industry but I studied my mentors, my peers, and wanted to outwork everyone. There is no way to achieve the success that I have without my family, my close friends and my sons Kameron, Jalen, and Caleb.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My very first business partners were Jamal Niles and Bobby Rusley, we met at my first restaurant job, and we all grew into a brotherhood of pushing each other to be great. Jamaal Marshall booked our first job and it was terrible, but we learned from our mistakes. Roth Silver would work with me until 3am on some nights and we would just have fun working the food truck. This is a team. My current business partner and great friend from high school Kent Dennis and I have created a new food truck brand (City Burgers) that will be greater than my first project. There is nothing like working with your best friends, and family to create something special.
Any advice for managing a team?
Uplift your team, and create a fun work environment. When your team is happy they get excited to come to work, and give your guests the best experience possible. Without a good team your job becomes a lot harder, a lot more stressful. So hire amazing people with great attitudes, and you’ll be excited to have them representing your brand. Once everyone is on the clock it becomes the whole teams brand. So take care of your team and they will take care of you
