Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Cole. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Katie, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

So, one day I was sitting at home in my isolation after going through a really tough time. I had been making my oils for at least 6 years prior to deciding to start a business and selling my oils to others. When I started making them it was initially because my daughter had a different texture of hair than mine and I couldn’t find any products that worked to keep her hair moisturized and growing healthy. It never actually crossed my mind to do so until I had a friend come over to visit me and she asked me “Why aren’t you selling these?” I told her I didn’t think it was a good idea because truthfully, I just had so much self doubt. Growing up being told I could do better, dealing with certain situations had me in a space where I just didn’t believe I could accomplish such a task.

I didn’t think I was capable of convincing others to buy something from me and also didn’t have the courage to put it out there and deal with rejection. In that very moment as my friend was encouraging me to just try it out, we sat and I came up with the name Let’s Keep Growing where at first she was like eh’ that’s really bland but something in my spirit felt really right about it. My heart really was not in a place where I felt I could take on entrepreneurship, I wasn’t working at the time and the alignment of it all was actually perfect. God had been transitioning me into a new woman and in other areas I had more confidence than I knew what do with and he was teaching me that greatness comes from within.

I knew that it would work given the amount of years I had put in trying different oils then testing them out and achieving results. I figured to just put my faith in what I knew and decided to post it and see what type of feedback I would get. The very first day I had quite a few responses from people that wanted to try it, being less concerned about the money and seeing the potential of it possibly growing. I kept promoting it and in the first week I made a hundred dollars and told myself I would try the following week to double what I had made. I remember getting excited at that point because I am a person that only needs to see something work once to know that I could make it work again and again.

I did some research and found that there was a huge market for my products and saw that I could really make a difference. Little did I know, I had a gift and God had chosen me to fulfill a purpose and it was beyond what I could even see at the time. I give all thanks to God because this was most definitely a blessing in disguise and now I am able to use my blessings to bless others.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m a 32 year old Kansas girl, currently residing in Phoenix, AZ taking care of my twin boys and my daughter. I have a background working in Human Resources for about 10 years and came to find that entrepreneurship was completely made for me. Back when I was young I knew for sure I was going to grow up and become an interior designer, that was my passion and my whole heart was wrapped into the idea of being able to use my creativeness to express myself and help others. Having my daughter is what got me started on making my oils because she needed something better than what I was able to find in the stores. There are so many challenges to being an entrepreneur, but I believe the best way to approach it is to stay the course.

The more effort that you put into something that you believe in the more you can make it your reality. Trusting in my products and my own ability to have just enough discipline to keep trying new things and continue to promote myself has shown me the type of growth that I can accomplish. Most times I am able to talk to my potential customers and get to know them and what exact issue they’re having with their hair growth. This allows me to recommend the best products that will help them achieve the results they are looking for as well as give them the encouragement that they need to start their journey. Let’s Keep Growing’s mission is to be able to help each individual grow their hair and confidence, getting them to see that all things are possible with growth and effort.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

In life we all experience many setbacks and we begin to have doubts in our own abilities. Some people give up and others keep going. Ever since I started my journey I haven’t wanted to give up once but I must admit that there have been times where my challenges have overwhelmed me and made me feel almost incapable of achieving my goals when it comes to growing my business. I am resilient because God has shown up each time I have struggled to see the greatness of what he has called me to do.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I wouldn’t call it much of a lesson but it just depends on one’s perception. Your mindset is the key to your success. If you cannot see past your negative thoughts and doubts then you will go nowhere. Knowing that you are capable of achieving anything that you put your mind to will definitely take you far. Get it out of your head that you cannot do something, seeing is truly believing. Have a vision and hold on to it, the vision is what gets you to each next chapter.
