We recently connected with Michael Sperling and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that it is important to lead my team and respond to our clients with empathy. I think this is often left behind in today’s fast paced work environment.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I left the newspaper industry 15 years ago to start my business. I saw a need in our area to help local small businesses break into digital marketing and have since grown the agency to allow us to offer more services and to work with larger clients.
This past year we were named to the Inc5000 list as one of the 5000 fastest growing privately held companies in the United States. We worked really hard to get to this point.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We have been really lucky and have had a lot of our clients come to us via referral. Current clients are our best form of marketing. This means it is important to execute on your promises and to make sure to communicate clearly during the project and regularly after the project has been completed.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
This is not a specific story but something that happens to us a few times each year. Like every business, we have a small number clients who will leave us after a period of time to try a different vendor. We typically have a good number of these clients return after a short period of time. We even had one who asked to be billed a $100 disloyalty fee upon their return to apologize.
