We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pooja Mehta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Pooja, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Jhalak Dance Academy’s mission is to provide the best quality instruction to all of their students. Our aim is to help our students achieve their full potential. As a student I always needed a bit more attention and help learning material. Teachers were not always able to give me that time, which is why it is very important to me that I and all of Jhalak teachers give Jhalak students all their attention.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Jhalak Dance Academy offers Kathak, Bollywood, and Hip Hop dance classes. We pride ourself on the quality of instruction in all of our dance classes. We are talented, well trained, dance instructors in Kathak, Bollywood, and Acrobat. Moreover, we are fully committed to teaching the students, and helping them achieve their potential. Our focus is on making all dance students their very best. Come join us, we can’t wait to meet you.

At Jhalak we aim to spread the culture of dance into the lives of not only Indians, but people of all cultures and religion. Our belief is “Anybody can Dance.” We offer a special package for those with financial limitations to be able to learn dance and excel in it. Jhalak Dance Academy believes in the motto: “Dance with your Heart!” With this motto, Jhalak will continue to teach and thrive to all those with a passion for dance.

I got into dance as a young child. I loved doing Garba (Gujarat Folk Dance) and dancing to Bollywood music. From their my mom put me into Bharatnatyam, which I did not like, but in High School I joined Kathak, which I loved. From that day I knew I wanted to teach dance.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

We built our audience by sharing posts related to the dance classes we offer as well as posting trend videos.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
