We were lucky to catch up with Amanda/Kaitlin Besler/Holt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda/Kaitlin, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our families are very close so we have had the opportunity to travel and spend a lot of time together. We always had a bag of tricks and activities for our kids when we were on the go and realized it was something that could be made into a business. Two moms working together can conquer a lot! From airplanes, car rides, restaurants or for just a few minutes of peace at home, we have been able to translate our mom hack into something that others can benefit from. We are so excited about our product and that we get to do this together.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Both of us (Amanda & Kaitlin) have been full time moms the past 7 years. Although some may not consider this to be a “career,” we have found it to be our greatest resume builder yet. In these years, we have learned so much about kids, parenting, and ourselves, which is where the need for Bizy Bags was born. Every parent has their own bag of tricks that they bring with them when they leave the house, or when they are at home with an idle child. There are days we leave the house feeling as prepared as we can be, while there are other days where we feel the opposite. Then there are the days where you haven’t even made it that far: your brain is scattered with countless to-do lists, and you may not have time to pack up that bag of tricks. So, we created our own bag of tricks, with the experience we have in these situations. With a background in speech pathology, our bags are carefully curated with developmentally appropriate, play-learning tools for your kids to fill their time, and to bring you some sanity. We have tested our products on our own children, and have found things that not only challenge them, but activities that they find fun, engaging and peak their curiosity and interest. We are most proud of ourselves in the fact that even in a very challenging time in our lives with young children, we have put our heads and time together to do something that fills a need for others. We strongly believe in the value and importance of our products, and want to share it with other bizy families. It was hard for the both of us to leave the work force and find something we are both passionate about, besides raising our own children: Bizy Bags is something that intertwines both worlds.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
We met through mutual friends who knew that we were like minded. We have noticed that parents who parent the same way you do are usually those who you click with the best. We have also noticed that moms are always seeking companion, especially those who stay home with littles all day. We bonded in the fact that we patented the same way and were constantly sorrounded by small people all day! The business idea didn’t come to us until years later but we’re so happy we have decided to have got started while our kids are still young and we are still “in the thick of it” so our kids can still benefit from Bizy Bags.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
We are from Kansas City which is a great test market. KC is a “small big city” which allows us to have a micro and macro presence. Born and raised in Kansas City, we have a wide range of friend circles that allow us to touch a lot of different groups of people. Moms are always so willing to support other moms so we have been very lucky to get support from others so easily. There truly is no place like home and I think this has been key to starting our business.
