Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Corey Edwards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Corey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Here is information from my “One Pager” and I will email it to you for review.
Corey is a motivational speaker, author, and serial entrepreneur. Born in Detroit,
Michigan, he has had to break through substantial challenges in his life to get
where he is today. Corey has built numerous successful businesses and now he
shares his inspirational stories to help others as a motivational speaker with
“Corey Edwards Mastermind.”
As a teenager in 1993, after suffering a gunshot injury to the spinal cord which left
him paralyzed from the waist down, doctors told Corey he would never walk
again. Through his determination and belief, Corey proved the doctors wrong by
not only walking again, but also by climbing mountains ranging from the jungles of
Costa Rica to the Great Wall of China. He overcame many obstacles in his life,
realizing his drive, dedication, and mindset were the keys to his success.
In his keynote speeches and presentations, Corey motivates others by sharing his
positivity, inspiration, and secrets to his success. His life stories and experiences
provoke audiences to make changes and succeed in their own lives.
Corey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a paraplegic from being shot at the age of 17 years old and still parlayed from the knees down for 29 years it has not stopped me. I have become one of the top mortgage loan officers in the world as far as sales at Rocket Mortgage. Then 2008 I lost everything financially when the market crashed to the point, I was on my second time of committing suicide. Then after that I started working at the # 1 Real Estate company in the world called Keller Willaims Realty. In 2016 I was awarded the top 5th real estate agent in world as far as sales. Not too bad for a guy that walks with 2 canes and is paralyzed from the knees down. I just completed my book which is called 29 Years Later, and I am in the transition of getting out of real estate and motivational speaking. I am excited to close one chapter and move forward with my last chapter in my life which is to give back and inspire others.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I can remember being paralyzed and my social worker walked in my room and says in a cheerful manor “Corey you are turning 18 years old next month and you will be eligible for social security, and you will be able to collect food stamps for the rest of your life. I knew right at the time I had to do something to change my future because my why was bigger than that.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
2009-2010 when I lost everything! I was financially paralyzed, went through a divorce, lost all of my homes and almost turned the lights out one day forever. My daughter at the time was my savior and I know that I had to make a change, so I came back stronger than ever.
