Noelle , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
At The Sound Spa, we are blessed to serve a wide variety of people, from ages 5-78. We have heard numerous stories from our members about the life-changing benefits they have experienced by attending our sound sessions weekly. One woman in particular has been able to navigate one of the most difficult seasons of her life in a more calm and healthy manner thanks to the “mental reset” she gets at each sound session. She sometimes attends even 2-3 times per week when her anxiety and stress get to be too much to handle. Not only is her ability to navigate the stress of life and work improved, but she is also sleeping better and feeling less chronic pain. This has helped her to lose weight, because when she sleeps better- she makes better food choices. She was quite skeptical when she first heard of our studio and the benefits of sound immersions. But now she is a strong advocate and has brought in many friends and relatives.
Noelle , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a former teacher, mom of 3, and I have struggled deeply with mental health, chronic pain, and a weakened immune system for the majority of my adult life. By my 30’s, I felt like I was falling apart. I could barely get through work without being in tears from all the pain, making it that much more difficult to come home and take care of my kids. It was not the life I wanted to live. After one particular incident, I finally started to take my health seriously. Which ultimately, led me to finding sound immersions.
After attending my first sound immersion, I was amazed at how well I slept that night. I woke up feeling calmer and more refreshed than ever before. Which led me to searching for more sessions to attend, and I started going weekly for a few months. I could never have expected what would happen next. Within 3 months, I was off all medications and feeling better than I ever had before. I was so impressed with the results that I got, that I started learning how to do sound therapy in order to help my family.
As I learned more and more, I had friends ask me to do sound immersions for them as well. And I was invited to a few special events. As I continued to do more, I saw all the benefits that people were having with me. I was encouraged to do this full-time, but at the time wasn’t sure. As a teacher for 10 years, I never saw myself leaving my career.
As a teacher, I witnessed first-hand the impact Covid had on people of all ages. My students, my coworkers, parents, and the community were all really struggling. Anxiety and depression was at an all-time high and my heart continued to break for my students. It finally got to the point where I realized that I could help others more through sound therapy than I was helping in the classroom. So I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my career to pursue this full-time.
The Sound Spa was created to change lives, to improve the mental and emotional health of others. Sound immersions regulate the nervous system and improve mental/emotional functioning. Our modern society is so fast-paced and full of overwhelming stimuli… by taking a break and regulating the nervous system, we are able to be more mindful and calm throughout all the other parts of life.
We help people of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds. We have helped members to overcome anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, depression, ADHD, grief, and other mental health struggles. What sets us apart is the comfort and service that we provide. When you walk into our studio, we have all of the amenities to maximize your comfort during the session. We provide comfortable cushions, blankets, pillows and other props to increase relaxation during the session. We also provide sound immersions on the same schedule each week. This increases availability of sessions, and also makes it easier to make this highly-effective form of self-care more of a routine. Just like scheduling in a work out, our members schedule their sound sessions for a time that is most convenient for them each week.
We are most proud of our membership model, the first one in our area. It was important for us to make sound immersions affordable and convenient for people who wanted to attend regularly. We are a community, a community of people who want to improve themselves and live a calmer, more positive life.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social proof has been the most-effective strategy for growing our clientele. Sharing testimonies from our members, as well as word of mouth is stronger than any other form of marketing has been. Especially with being such a new business, and a new concept in our area, people are more likely to trust the recommendations of a friend or family member than anything we have to say. We have been blessed with members that allow me to share their stories, and the benefits they have experienced with others.
I truly believe that sharing stories is so important to the human experience. It is through the stories of others that we find hope, comfort, and solutions to our own problems. So when someone shares a story of how their ADHD and anxiety symptoms were alleviated through sound immersion, now suddenly it seems like a possible solution for another person to experience that same benefit. I don’t share every story though, because privacy is also very important to me. Honoring each guest and member is critical, and so there are many more stories that I have had the pleasure to hear about, but there will never be made public.
We also get a great amount of new customers through word of mouth. When a customer has a great experience, they are excited to share with others. So many times we have heard a new guest share a list of people they would love to bring in soon. So many wives that come in immediately want to share with their husband, or their children. Our main focus is providing the best experience for each person that walks in through our doors, and that has paid off greatly in growing our business.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Local networking has also been a great source of new clients. I have joined several local networking groups in our area, and have greatly improved my business through those organizations. I not only gain clients through networking, but I have also built great relationships with other local business owners. Those relationships have been crucial for growing myself as a business owner, as well as my business.
