We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carmen Salvá del Corral. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carmen below.
Carmen, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
If happiness is found in yourself, I am. For me there is no other way of living than creating. Yes, of course I think so, but it instantly disappears when I understand that writing what they force you to do or painting what they tell you is imprisoning your creativity. I can receive orders, of course I do!, but always keeping my focus and my work technique.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I came to writing through a literary workshop that I received in Mexico City and to painting due to the need to illustrate my own stories and books. I offer my literature and my paintings.
What problems do you solve? None, my work is more related to leisure, for example, having a good time reading or making a corner of your house, your business or your office more welcoming with my paintings.
I think what sets me apart from others is my particular way of bringing beauty and love into each of my works.
I am proud of everything, but perhaps at this moment I am especially proud of my historical novel La mirada, since it has just won a literary prize, although of course without belittling the rest of my literary and pictorial work.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Of course! In literature and cinema at the same time, I could highlight The Diary of Anne Frank and Little Women. In literature, I would highlight the biographies of Marie Curie, Severo Ochoa and Nikola Tesla. A book that left a big impression on me was The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Any of the cursed poets like Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Edgar Allan Poe, Alejandra Pizarnik, Federico García Lorca.
In movies I would highlight the Indiana Jones saga, The Da Vinci Code, The Pelican Brief.
In painting I could highlight painters such as Diego Rivera, El Greco, Sorolla, Turner, Frida Khalo, Velázquez, El Bosco, Renoir…

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Capture both on a sheet of paper and on a blank canvas my thoughts, my desires, my dreams, my disappointments, my complaints. When you are a creative you are the possessor of the greatest of gifts, thanks to him you can make your truth come to light through the letters and the colors that the brushstrokes transform into images giving them life in some way.
