We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luigi Society a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luigi Society, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
After working in the Banking Industry in Kingston, Jamaica for almost 13 years, I decided to leave that profession to pursue my real passion of Music & Entertainment. Most persons may refrain from doing such a thing because your basically leaving what we refer to as ‘sure for unsure’. Take the covid-19 pandemic that affected the entire world for perfect example; it greatly affected the Entertainment Industry negatively.
As an Event Coordinator & Artiste Manager, I was affected exponentially as no events were allowed to be executed which not only meant I could not keep my events but it also meant that my artiste; Munga Honorable’s shows & tours were all cancelled both locally & internationally. In other words I would be affected financially from both aspects.
However, to this day I have not regretted my decision as it allowed me to focus fully on my real passion as a Music Producer. Now that i had the time because I wasn’t busy keeping events or travelling with my artiste, I now had the time to focus on creating more music. I became more consistent in releasing projects and have since collaborated with many local and international artistes in South America & Europe especially such as Popcaan, Charly Blacks, El Shaaki, SFDK, Demarco, Ce’Cile & Mala Rodriguez, just to name a few.
I have scored multiple top 10 iTunes charted projects including being #1 on iTunes Top 100 for Reggae and Worldwide albums with billboard artistes; Xyclone & Heph B respectively.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Romaine “Luigi Society” Brown (born May 1st, 1984) established in Jamaica as an elite event promoter, that channeled my success into music production.
I started out at Wolmers Preparatory School and graduated to Wolmers Boys High School. I went on to complete an Information Technology degree at Infoserv Institute of Technology and completed a degree in Production Operations Management at the University of Technology. I started out executing events during my time at University and begun music production towards the end of my tenure at the college.
I started working in the Financial Industry after college where I developed my crafts in both event coordination & music production as well as Artiste Management, as I developed a business relationship with Dancehall legend; Munga Honorable through my events.
It was extremely difficult to navigate between my passions while working at the bank, as I would constantly have to be travelling with Munga for overseas gigs as well as my personal travels for executing my own events locally & in international markets. By this time, my breakfast event “Daybreak” had become one of the biggest events in Jamaica as well as North America so I had to make the calculated decision to end my 13 year tenure in the FinancialIndustry.
I can now consistently release quality music for the world while also being able to manage my time more diversely and have since been able to expand in many ways; I am now executing one of the biggest weekend of events in all of Jamaica, known as “The Best Weekend Ever” which consists of the most popular event lineup on the island – Daybreak, Allure, I Love Soca, Milk & Honey, Zimi Seh Beach & Late Check Out.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
From the first day I started doing music my aim was to produce global quality music that entered all the relevant music charts. I’ve since, landed multiple #1 projects on iTunes charts and my focus is now to land Billboard & Grammy recognitions. My goal as an event coordinator & artiste manager have both been reached; to consistently provide high quality events that satisfy patrons as well as keeping my artiste in the public eye, respectively. My new goals are now to expand in more territories in the world.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Gaining awards, high streaming songs & chart topping songs are all great but the most rewarding aspect of being a creative has to be the satisfaction my end product gives to the consumer. If persons love my music, enjoy my events or continue to support my artiste; are the greatest feelings in the world.
