Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julius Wade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Julius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I felt I wanted to pursue a career in music was back when I was 9 years old. I remember my family went to visit my older brother in Tennessee, and at the time he had a studio in his home. I always had this connection & infatuation with music, so when he offered me and his children the opportunity to create a track, I was extremely excited about it. We literally built a track from ground up, all of us co-producing the instrumental, writing the song, and of course recording the vocals. The song was called “Spicy Dirty South”. After that recording session, my flame of desire was sparked in terms of wanting a career as a recording artist & entertainer. The energy I felt from being able to create music in that moment was indescribable and surreal, but I knew that I could wake up every day to create music, and feel an extreme sense of satisfaction off of that. I started to pursue music shortly after that, and I really honed in on my pursuits when I was a teenager.
Julius, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may not know; My name is Julius Wade and I am a Hip-Hop/R&B Singer & Songwriter from Miami, Florida( I also reside in Columbus, Ohio). When it comes to my creative process, I sing, write my own material, co-produce tracks, vocal produce, co-engineer and I do anything that allows me to really be hands on with music. I’m an independent artist right now, so I also spend time branding myself, showcasing my image through photo-shoots, music video shoots, performing, and promoting myself on social media. I pride myself in making heartfelt R&B that reigns true and substantial to my personal experiences and things that everyone else can relate to as well. My music is very reminiscent of 90’s and early 2000’s music, however it also carries a futuristic vibe to it as well. I aim to create music that really impacts your emotions, and entertains you as you listen to it. I feel that my music is positive, it speaks on love, it’s full of confidence and inspiration, and it carries a level of sexiness to it as well. I like to be cutting edge from my image, down to the versatility of what I create, but still deliver something that is smooth and relatable.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think it’s common for artists/creatives to be misunderstood by non-creatives. We live in a society that sometimes pushes the idea of obtaining success in the cliche ways that we’ve been taught. Although you see artists thriving in the mainstream world all the time, people still don’t fully understand one’s personal pursuit towards accomplishing a career in art or music at times. It’s often taught to play it safe by earning a college degree, and pursuing a career that society seems to be “realistic”. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pursuing success that way, but I’m also a firm believer that people can achieve their own analysis of success through the ideas they are passionate about as well. As an artist, I would love to achieve great awards, and accolades one day, but my love for creating music drives me more than the thought of any materialistic gaining. I think the world should understand that passion driven careers are realistic, and should be an encouraging pursuit as well. Proper planning, structure, and preparation for the future is certainly important. However, happiness and waking up to do what you love is extremely important as well. Be intentional about your pathway, be informed as well, but strong enough to go for it!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My personal goals as an artist are pretty simple. I want to entertain the world with music that represents my story in totality, but also makes my listeners feel something substantial. When I think of how my favorite songs impact me, be it a trigger of emotions, a resurfaced memory, or just a general swift in my current energy or mood, I can’t help but to want to provide that same impact for someone who is checking out my music for 3-5 minutes of song. I just want to contribute positivity for the world through music, and have my music on the biggest platforms I can possibly reach with it. I’d also like to establish financial freedom for my family, and gain enough resources to give back to my communities in Columbus, OH and Miami, FL. I’d love to bridge the gap between creating my music, and serving the communities in the world that need opportunities & resources of all sorts in life.
