We were lucky to catch up with Dawn Trimble recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Dawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?

Answering this question would lead one to believe that I have wished my creative career to have started sooner. In all honestly, I firmly believe everything concerning my fine art career happened in just the right season.

For years prior to the pandemic, I worked as a professional interior designer within corporate interior design firms. While I have a passion for architecture and design (this was my educational background), sitting behind a desk for hours on end drained me of my creativity – it simply was not for me.

I would say that my creative career began at just the right time. Without having gone through a few major life changes – a layoff and a divorce, I do not believe my voice would have been as strong and resolved as it is now. If my fine art career had started sooner, I do not feel that my work would have the depth and personal narrative it possesses now. I hope that I am able to communicate beautiful and serene freedom in my work because I have made it to the other side with innate joy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I like to call myself a former interior designer and architect turned fine artist.

While I have worked in the interior design and architecture field for over 15 years, I feel that I have found my purpose and true passion as a fine artist. Grounding my abstract watercolor works within a narrative that is personal yet familiar is critical in conveying a unique intimate expression to my collectors. I am most proud (and humbled) when collectors reach out to me to thank me for creating an art piece they’ve recently collected.

Communicating from a position of openness remains important to me. Our world is constantly changing – so to communicate with a certain level of vulnerability in response to that change becomes the indelible mark I strive to build within my practice and the thing people seek me out for.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Hands down the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the sincere gratitude I receive from new and repeat collectors. I can paint all that I want, but if no one is there to collect my art – it is not a successful business. I am truly thankful for my collectors and how excited they are to collect my original work.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

A specific goal I have as I continue to grow my business is to simply keep moving. No matter how small the action, continue to do something every day to move your business forward. Your daily work is what shapes your business.
