Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Shead. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kimberly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Honestly everyday in this field or any field you learn something important. It’s up to you if actually take the time to learn from it. Over the years I’ve learned many of things, especially how to actually shut up listen step back and evaluate. over the years as a artist/creative and entrepreneur I’ve learned many of lessons. Some of my top lessons I’ve learned is 1: to surround your self with the right people. 2: “Stop Caring” stop trying to live up to other people expectations and versions of you. BE YOURSELF. and 3: Some people don’t have your best interest even when they say they do. Read the room, read people, read your contracts, do your research, and last but not least make sure it’s legit! When starting off I had no one helping me, so I had my far shares of people trying to scam me. I signed up for every website every agency that claimed they could get me in front of industry people. One day a lady reached out to me via email. She said that a major brand (Adidas) wanted to work with me. She asked for all my information and gave me details on when and where it would be. A few weeks later before the shoot she sent me a check told me to put it into my account take my cut out and send them the rest. I think I was so excited about it, I didn’t see a red flag. I placed the check in my account took my part out. Luckily god had my back! They caught the check and let me know it was a scam, but I still had to pay back the part I’ve spent. Which isn’t bad it could’ve been worst. Listen you guys I can’t stress it enough do your research!!! It will help you avoid some of those Unnecessary hurdles.
Kimberly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kimberly Shead. I am a singer/rapper, songwriter, model, actress, entrepreneur and photographer. Also a soon to be talk show host. I am originally from Chicago Illinois I relocated to Kissimmee Florida right after high school I’ve always known that I wanted to be in the arts. I would have these dreams of me being on stage or even a famous photographer I was really shy growing up so I figured my dreams was just a dream. Over the years I definitely proved myself wrong! My dreams has become reality and now I have even bigger dreams. I have so many accomplishments and proud moments of my life. Some of my favorite moments of my career in music is reaching a half million views on a few of my brother and I music videos. Some more Amazing moments will consist of being able to perform In Atlanta with some of the rap game cast multiple times, Performing with Kodak Black brother John Wick, Shooting a music video in Miami, Performing at Festivals with my band, going to a dj Khalid event, And also being able to meet celebrities who is aspiring like all of fifth harmony members, Cardi B, P. Diddy and his family, Supa Peach, Miss mulatto a.k.a. big Latto, John Wick, Kodak Black, Ti, etc. don’t really need to name drop all day lol. A moment where I was proud in photography is when I got to shoot for Orlando fashion week fashion shows and auditions also where I shot 15 people in two days and such little time. But my favorite moment is when A Chicago local talent who was really big at the moment agency Payed me $300 taking a chance on me for a photo shoot for their artist. Why was this a big moment for me you may ask. This was a big moment for me because it was my first paid gig and someone believed in me enough to pay me when I had no experience. A few more moments in my life that I am very proud of is being able to work with companies like Disney, Universal, Dennys, Olive Garden, African is in Orlando events, Orlando Fashion week ,and more. I’ve walked in numerous Fashion Show’s been on set for numerous projects for acting and also featured on other site websites for apparel and also blogs.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As I mention in my about me I am a entrepreneur my business is called “Let’s of life again”. As of right now it is in working progress. Let’s love life again it’s about people who give up on your dreams. Those who don’t feel like they could reach their dreams. It gives hope to the ones that have forgotten about the purpose because of every day life. We were all put on this earth for a purpose And sometimes we forget because life throws us many obstacles. Let’s love life again is it guidance to help people get back up again to start dreaming as if we were kids again. Where there were no worries. It is the Formula to live in a better and healthier life. Sometimes we just need that push a community of people who is just like you.. Sometimes it’s harder because we think that we are alone. When we are not. Let’s love life again wants to bring the light into the homes that are dark. It is Christianity, inspiration, motivation, health and wellness, and much more. This is what drives me every day. And I don’t just show the glitz and glamour I like to show the beginning, the obstacles, and the dark times. To show people that they’re is hope, there is light at the end of the tunnel so keep going and don’t stop.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Honestly being in the arts is very hard. Most times people don’t take it seriously, it’s already hard enough to keep going. People in the arts real job is auditioning I can say 80% of the time we are auditioning, and the rest of that percentage those are our gigs. It sucks because we put so much time into practicing for auditions that takes 30 minutes to an hour or even more of our life, to get a call back to say that sorry you didn’t fit for the role or whatever you’re auditioning for. People who are not artists Don’t see how much hard work we put into our work. Their main question is are you going to get pay for this? when are you getting paid? did you get paid? Especially for the ones who’s just starting off! your going to hear those question for years. And trust me they get very annoying! Creative’s journey is pretty much getting the doors shut on their faces. They are always waiting on the moment for their time to come. Their big break. It’s funny because a lot of people who are not into the arts industry or don’t understand it there are more people who does arts that will need therapy. Because it is mentally and physically straining. It’s like you’re in competition with not only everyone else but yourself. They feel like they have something to prove. And I feel like the outside world of none arts don’t understand that. Also when I say arts I mean all arts. This applies to (Actress, models, dancers, recording artists, artists, etc)
