Alright, Brandi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
The single most important thing I think my parents did right was to instill the spirit of entrepreneurialism within my brother and I from an early age.
When I was 2 and my brother just a newborn, my father worked as a printer by night to financially support is. He worked long, hard hours at a job he hated with no complaints. Somehow he was able to find his purpose and follow his true path with the opening of his epic antiques store, Bo’s Funky Stuff which would go on to last 40 plus years!
My mother has also proven herself to be a cutting edge entrepreneur. In the 80s, she opened an amazing vintage clothing store which lasted 10 plus years before she moved on to become the second person in Phoenix to specialize in permanent make up. She is still running her highly regarded Painted Ladies Permanent Makeup salon to this day!
Both of my parents made it quite clear that success in life means doing the things you truly love and doing them on your own terms. By living and teaching us this are the most important things my parents did for my brother, Shad Kvetko (who owns the wildly popular Las Almas Rotas in Dallas, TX) and I and I can’t ever thank them enough!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Rise and Shine started spontaneously during the time I was running my vintage store, Go-Kat-Go (1996-2013). Everyone who knows me knows my passion for pets so Rise quickly grew as more and more people started requesting my services. The jobs came in easily and I loved watching pets so much that it occurred to me that this could (and should be) my full time business…Lo and behold, Rise and Shine Pet Services was born!
I have also worked the last 10 and 1/2 years at the Arizona Animal Welfare League. This shelter experience has provided me the utmost knowledge and education in both animal behavior and veterinary care and has given me more experience working with all kinds of veterinary issues and behaviors than I could ever hope to have. From a simple walk to critical veterinary care, I can competently provide most services for pets without charging a small fortune. Also, because of my shelter background, I am a very competent cat sitter and am also willing to care for breeds other sitters may turn away.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Back in March of 2020, the very beginning of the Covid pandemic,, I watched my pet sitting calendar literally wipe itself clean! One by one, each booking was cancelled as travel froze for an indefinite time. For the remainder of the year, I still had a few clients who continued camping trips and would book me to watch their beloved pets.
Luckily, I had not only retained my full job at the Arizona Animal Welfare League but also stepped into the role of foster manager.. Working two jobs allowed me the power to pivot and stay financially stable until I could start sitting full time again.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
To this day, my best strategy has been to follow and live by this quote by Maya Angelou:
“People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
I do my best to make pet parents feel peaceful and at ease when leaving their furry family in my care. It also doesn’t hurt that I absolutely LOVE and am the best at what I do! My passion and experience has always led to so many word of mouth referrals that I’ve never had to advertise for clientele.
