Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jed Anglade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jed, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The other day a friend asked me why I created this brand with an emphasis on football (soccer), the beautiful game. My brand stems from my time playing the sport. During my youth, I experienced what many footballers have experienced; a prejudice for looking different, players and coaches believing you’re not good enough, and the most important, self-doubt.
As I grew up, I had the idea of creating an ecosystem where everyone could be understood and express themselves in their own way. I wanted to make a brand that empowered “your brand of football,” if you will. Whether it’s 11v11 beach soccer or street, football (soccer) is a place where you can bring your individualism and be accepted.
That idea became Squared Limited, or SQDLTD for short. Squared Limited is an apparel brand for people from all parts of the globe. Through the patterns and designs we make, each piece has a football related story that we try to bring to your wardrobe. The acronym SQDLTD stands for, Soccer Quality Drip, Living The Dream. When you wear our apparel, it’s an embodiment of who you are on and off the pitch. Clothing has always been a huge aspect of how people express themselves. With Squared Limited, we wanted people to feel as if no matter the limitations or the emotions of feeling boxed in, with our “drip” you can express who you are and keep living your dream.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a multimedia artist specializing in graphic design and travel photography. When I am not working on apparel for Squared Limited I am traveling whenever and wherever I can, exploring the world as much as possible. I am also an avid football (soccer) fan, player, coach and whatever else you can think of that relates to football I am a huge fan of the football club Arsenal, which has been quite a traumatizing decade of support to say the least and I am also a huge supporter of my boyhood club D.C. United here in the United States.
I would say football is the main reason I got into the fashion industry. I remember back in 2009, the Adidas track pants were getting really popular amongst all social groups within my high school. I thought it was funny because those particular track pants were worn mainly by soccer players and back then I would see them paired up with a pair of Air Jordan shoes. That was the first time I realized that soccer apparel would become a niche of pop culture and streetwear fashion to the point where celebrities like Drake, would wear a soccer jersey. I knew I wanted to be a part of the movement and introduce the mainstream not to soccer, but to football.
I’m most known for my business Squared Limited and very proud of it. I’ve learned a lot running this business and I am currently celebrating five years in the business. We sell a variety of pieces such as soccer jerseys to duffel bags. Some pieces are strictly for performance while others are good for lifestyle and leisure. Our brand caters to all styles from football. As I continue to build I want to educate people more about the sport and the cultures that have been built around it. There are so many stories that have not been heard yet and I would like for those stories to reach as many ears and eyes as possible. For example, I had the opportunity to travel to Bahia, Brazil, where I met a group of people called the Quilombos. The Quilombos, are a community of Afro-Brazilians who were formed by fugitive slaves. I was able to talk with them, eat with them and here their story about how misrepresented they are in Brazil, their homeland after their ancestors had being taken away from their own. I learned so much about their culture, their history and of course their skills with a football. These are the kind of connections that try to form with my brand, SQDLTD, our Online magazine Golz Mag and Youtube channel SQDtv. This world is vast with so many amazing people to meet and get to know. I’ve met so many amazing people through this sport and have learned so many aspects of myself that I hope through my brand, others can do the same.

Have you ever had to pivot?
There were many instances where I’ve had to rebuild and let go of self-doubt. One good lesson to learn when it involves change is to be accepting of it. This business has not been my only source of income and is not yet the bread winner I would like for it to be so throughout the process of building it I would have to look for employment. One of the hardest things to do when running a business is trying to delegate how much time you can spend on its improvement and on your self care and improvement. There are times where you will have to forget about the business and focus on you and your well-being. Life does not stop and for that very reason I had to stop and ensure that I can carry forward with the work load. When working on multiple things there is definitely a lot of pivoting.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
During the early days of growing the business I had a couple of moments where a lot of fraudulent transactions were coming through the store. This was a huge letdown because sales were looking good and to learn that some were fake affected me personally. As a business owner I want to offer the best product and the best experience to whoever decides to head to my shop. Seeing multiple attempts to commit fraud presented me with a lot of anxiety especially with a young and growing business. I had decided in the end to scale back the growth of my store to ensure the security and integrity of my business. Thankfully I was able to resolve the issue and staunch the attempts and even though I knew this situation could happen at any level of growth in my business it did affect me on a personal level.
