We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Medina-moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
At the start of 2019, I could see my son’s full time enrollment in school coming down the road. I began to consider what I would do with my time come fall. I was actively participating in a couple local ministries, so I gave thought to putting in more time volunteering or even applying for a paid position. Having previous experience in retail, maybe I’d return to that.
Around that time, I was connecting more with a friend and local city missionary. One way we spent time, I did her nails with my (very limited) gel set up. During one of our hangs, she suggested that I go to school to become a nail tech. An option I never considered. I prayed about it and discussed it with my husband. I honestly wrestled with the idea of stepping into that industry.
“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.: Proverbs 16:24 was the verse I got. I felt like God was showing me that it would be so much more than just doing nails. Most people just need to be heard, feel seen and encouraged.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
It’s such an honor to be on this side of the nail table. To have a window into people’s lives, share in their victories & grieve with them in their losses. My heart is to create space for the person in front of me to feel safe, whether in silence or getting it all out. To speak life and make sure they know they are seen and have infinite worth. All while getting to be creative and helping each client live their best nail life.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media. Instagram specifically. Posting consistently and staying interactive. When clients share their nailfies, it gets their followers attention! I can confidently say that social media has greatly helped build my clientele. Testimony is a powerful thing. Every post and share of how much a client appreciates their mani/pedi makes an impact!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Transparency. I’m honest about what I feel capable of and what I would be “giving my best shot.” For instance, I really enjoy doing hand painted nail art. 3d designs, crystals, encapsulation however, are things I’m still getting the hang of.
I’m open to having meaty conversations and nothing is off the table. Creating a space where my client feels safe to discuss whatever is on their minds/hearts. Light and airy or deep and controversial. Navigating conversations while respecting one another’s boundaries is key.
