Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Amador. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Veronica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I first picked up my camera as a hobby and for documenting my personal life. We moved around a lot with my husband in the military, so I wanted to capture our memories wherever we went. I always had a knack for finding beauty in ordinary things and places, so I took photos of everything!
The first time I stepped in front of the camera in a boudoir setting, I was nervous. Growing up, talking about sex, sensuality, or anything remotely related to your body was taboo. The way I dressed, the way I carried myself, everything about me was filtered through the lens of ‘propriety’ and what I was told was acceptable for a Mexican-American married woman. So I stepped out of my comfort zone and went to my session anyway. I was finally able to see the beauty in myself. I can’t honestly express in words what ‘clicked’ but I finally gave myself permission to see myself as a beautiful person. I loved the experience so much that I went on to book three more boudoir sessions for myself. Each experience was uplifting in its own way. It’s really that simple.
I wanted to share that experience with everyone. My journey in boudoir photography finally began in 2015 and I have loved every minute of it since! My core mission has remained the same: to show people their inner and outer beauty through the art of boudoir. Throughout the years, a lot has changed in my life, in my industry, and in the world. And while I have evolved, so has my business. My mission is to create beautiful emotive portraits that remind my clients of their beauty, strength, and sensuality. I want to bring out all of the things that make us perfectly human and celebrate our experience on this earth by first celebrating ourselves.

Veronica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a boudoir photographer based out of Chicago, IL. For those of you that don’t know what boudoir photography is, it’s a form of intimate portraiture, usually where the subject is in a bedroom setting (boudoir is the french word for bedroom or a woman’s dressing room), wearing lingerie. However, I take a different approach. I truly believe that sexy is a state of mind. With Golden Mean Boudoir you wear whatever it is that makes you feel alive, sexy, and beautiful. Often times that does include lingerie! From the moment you reach out we will chat on the phone and talk about what your dream session looks like. We will talk some more about what kinds of emotions you want to express during your session. Do you want to look powerful or sensual? Do you want to embrace your body and express gratitude for everything it does for you and take a quiet moment to just BE? Do you want to celebrate your uniqueness and joyfully prance around in lingerie? We talk about ALL of that and then create images that you will be proud to share and display.
I am most proud of the space that I created for my clients. The studio is truly a judgement free zone where you are free to express yourself and create with me. My clients often say that they feel safe and at ease in the studio.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honestly, I just wish I had leaned more on my community. I was so insecure (I can’t believe I’m sharing that!) and felt like such an impostor that I never showed up authentically as me. I wish I had learned to just CONNECT with people and share my story, share what I’m up to, and let the universe lead me to the right people. I also wish I had known to work on my money stories and blocks so that I felt WORTHY enough to be profitable from the beginning.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being a creative entrepreneur is lonely, I’m not going to lie. But the most rewarding aspect is finding your community. Your community of clients that believe in your mission and are happy to keep coming back to you and your community of entrepreneurs that understand the struggles you go through. As a boudoir photographer though, the most rewarding thing is seeing my clients eyes light up when they see their images in disbelief. It’s the moment they realize that they are gorgeous. It’s also when I see my clients go after their dreams because their session revealed something for them. THAT is the best part of my job.
