We recently connected with Octavia Miller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Octavia, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
AMID Event Planning started as a personal hobby and honestly a love for travel and event planning. One of my two favorite things to do is gathering with friends and family and creating beautiful meaningful memories. My second love is my love for travel. I live for visiting new places and experiencing all of the food, activities and beauty that my destination provides. I am the planner within my family and friend group and was constantly asked to put together an organized event or vacation. It all comes so easy for me and I love to create memories and bring out my artsy side to plan all events down to very last detail. I thrive in creating things that are outside of the box and leaving a “wow” factor for my clients.
Not only am I the planner within my circle, by posting my adventures and events, I quickly began to get inquiries from other people to help them to plan their next event or plan a nice vacation for them and their loved ones. It pushed me without thinking to begin to think about turning my passion into my business.
I began to think of creative names that would represent my business and brand and after a few days of brainstorming, I decided to go with AMID Event Planning (A Moment In Design). A Moment In Design was perfect for my vision of what I wanted my business to offer. Creating and executing events and travel planning that leaves an impression is my ultimate goal. Whether for an event for a couple of hours or travel plans for a couple of days; creating a moment that lasts forever is ultimate bliss!
I had the easy part taken care of, then it was time to work on the moving parts of the business. I created social media pages to highlight and post events that I done for clients as well as posts regarding travel and experiences. I then created my website and launched it on the day that I received notification from VoyageATL that I had been selected to have my article published!!!!
It’s been almost a year and AMID Event Planning is going great! I am working on adding more services to the event planning side as well as featuring new travel packages and merchandise. Turning my passion into my business has really been a blessing and I am looking forward to the next chapter for AMID Event Planning.
Octavia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mid 30’s Atlanta born female that enjoys living life to its fullest! I got into the event and travel planning industry by creating and planning my own events and travel experiences. I thought about starting a business for years and was afraid that I would be just another planner in Atlanta. I quickly realized that I bring a lot of different elements and creativity. My clients value my work and vision. I enjoy working with other vendors in the area that I know personally to work with in order to cover all aspects for my clients. What sets me apart form others is my attention to detail and my dedication to my craft.
I am most proud of my ability to get and idea, plan all details in an organized way and execute a budget friendly event or vacation. My goal to is provide all clients with the same attention to detail and thought for their events as I do my own. I will not stop until I feel it is perfect in every way!
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner and now fiance’ in 2017. He works in the event industry as well full time. After a couple of years together and me allowing him into my creative world and my love for celebrations and travel, he gifted me with my business on my birthday! It was so nice and such a sweet gesture to gift me with something that he sees so much potential in. He works with event planners everyday and he was impressed with my hobby for event and travel planning. He encouraged me with gifting me with my business in ways that are unimaginable. Together we plan and create memorable events for our clients.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for us have been word of mouth and social media. By putting together so many events and travel plans for my circle over the years, they have spread the word to other people that they know. When asked who planned their event, they gladly share that AMID Event Planning was the business behind the event/travel planning and recommend us. Social media has also been great for the business. By posting things that I do on a daily, whether event or travel related, it has boosted a wonderful source of new clients for us. Posting multiple times a week has helped to keep the business in front of potential new clients weekly.
