We recently connected with Damien Rider and have shared our conversation below.
Damien, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
January 3rd, 2015 i walked to me local beach with my paddleboard on my shoulder and I set off on a solo, unsupported 17 day voyage of 800 km. for 8 months leading up i had to learn to remove doubt, boundaries, pressure and some people from my daily life, to turn my mindset 180 to accomplish what i had ahead. After 21 shark encounters, 4 near drownings, loss of food and water, sleeping on the beach and sunstroke, I paddled into Bondi Beach and withit releasing any negative thoughts and PTSD from my past.
From there I continued for the next 8 years testing, proving and fine tuning new discoveries into logical and simple healing tools for others.
I wanted to know what i was sharing with others who were healing was authentic, honest and sustainable.
Damien, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One of my greatest gifts I created is the One Breath Meditation Method. One Breath Meditation is a science that has been around for a decade, used by thousands over the world.
It is based on the 5000 year old techniques of traditional meditation and mantras, combined with movement and psychology, to create a powerful modern approach to outdated therapies and practices, delivered in a natural progressive learning way.
As someone who has dedicated their life to find a solution to heal from my own trauma and at the same time increase my athletic performance. I emerged myself into every form of therapy, technique and training method to reach my desired goal. I found that most coaches and practitioners were talking the same language and not quite hitting the level I wanted to achieve. I began to see they were looking at the problem in a backward way so they were unable to see a clear and logical solution.
I combined what I had learnt over the 30 years, with what I knew to be true and set off to create, test and prove the effectiveness of what is now known as One Breath Meditation or OBM, in an undeniable and authentic way.
The power of the OBM method has been shown in 2 National geographic films, 4 published books and countless podcasts and media articles.
Now I’m on a mission to inspire and help change the lives of as many people as possible around the world, by helping them leverage the connection between the breath, body, and lifestyle, to achieve an unshakeable sense of well-being, a calm the mind, clear the noise of fear and anger, and focus on the present moment.
To create an openness and build the ultimate self trust, to accomplish anything.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Somedays motivation is hard to keep high but keeping a clear focus on the goal and consistency is what keeps building my reputation. I lead by example and continue to show people what is possible in life and what can be achieved with a few simple changes. Most people think it takes big changes to create a new result but really its just a few small changes and understanding pattern recognition that creates lasting results.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
May 9th, I rode in the basket of a hot air balloon to 10,000 feet. There I climbed out and onto a rope ladder that went from the basket to the top of the ballon with no parachute on. I climbed the 42 mtre rope ladder to the top, taking all of my strength to make it without falling 10,000 feet to the ground. I sat on top and watched the sunrise before strapping on my awaiting parachute rig and ran and jumped off, skydiving back the the ground. To remain calm, lowering my heart rate, slowing the pace of my breath and not have the -1 degree temperature effect my physical and mental ability, I had to step into a new resilience. I felt no pressure, no doubt and no limitation on my ability but mostly in reaching the top I felt a present moment of deep gratitude.
