We recently connected with Kevin Savage and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I remember when I made the decision to move to Atlanta to pursue my acting career. I’d lived in Philadelphia my whole life so this was a super huge decision. I was extremely nervous about taking such a big leap of faith but I wasn’t really scared to do it. I was excited about the unknown. Of course I knew there was a strong possibility that I could fall flat on my face, but for me failure just wasn’t an option. And that was the mindset that got me through when times got extremely difficult.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Ever since I was a kid I’d alway wondered what it would be like to be act. I got my first opportunity when I was cast as the lead character in a Christmas play at a church I was attending. The response I received from the audience do to my performance was electrifying. That’s when I knew I wanted to become a professional actor. From there I got involved with several community plays but after about 10 years of stage work, I new I wanted more. So in October of 2013, I moved to Atlanta to begin my film and television career.
I got my first opportunity to be on a television set when I was hired as a stand-in for Jay Ellis “Bryce ‘Blue’ Westbrook” on the television show The Game. I took being a stand-in very serious and it was noticed by producer. It earned me an opportunity to audition for a role and though I didn’t get it, the producers gave me a co-star role because they had recognized the passion inside me. It was one day of work and one scene, but I was so grateful. The best part about the whole experience was that my scene was actually with Jay Ellis and Wendy Raquel Robinson. I remember him joking with me saying “You’re trying to take me spot!” I laughed and thought to myself, “Nope, I want my own spot!”
Shortly after that experience I enrolled in acting class. That prepared me to audition for an agency called Aligned Stars. They signed me and I am still with them today.
I’ve been fortunate to be on television shows such as House of cards, The Originals, The Quad, Lovecraft country, Insecure, I Got A Story To Tell, as well as a host of films such as Chasing Waterfalls, Single Black Female, A Wesley Christmas, A Wesley Wedding and many more to come.
My journey has not always been easy though. There were times I didn’t know how I was going to pay my rent. At one point I even considered getting a job. But I’d remembered something a friend told me when I was auditioning for his play. He said “Sometimes you have to jump off the mountain and grow wings all the way down!” That statement was so powerful and it kept me focused on my plan A. With determination and a strong belief in God I was able to get through the rough times to get to where I am now.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative Is that I’m doing what I love.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What’s driving me in my journey is the fact that there are others who are looking up to me. I love to inspire and motivate and my career path as an actor puts me in the perfect position to do that.
