Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Knarik Arzumanyan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Knarik thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In 2010 my family of four(me, my husband and our 2 kids) decided to take a large risk and apply for a green card in the States. It was fortunately granted and we took a large leap of faith and decided to permanently move from a small country to one of the largest. Back in my country I had a position of employment at city’s international airport. It had always been my dream to be employed at one of the largest international airports; and when we decided to move I would finally have the chance to do what I had wanted to for so long. Everyone always told me that it wasn’t worth applying and getting my hopes up considering my chances of getting employment at LAX were very slim especially since I had just moved from a country that was a fraction of the size of LA. To everyone’s surprise, including me, after two months of residing in LA, I was employed by LAX. The risk that I took to apply did no damage to me, however it left me with a priceless experience and memories. However, I am always eager to learn and experience new things in life; so, I decided to embark on a new chapter in my life and take on the art of makeup. I started this ongoing journey in the summer of 2015 and it has led me towards many young and talented models, photographers, among many people that have striven me to always do my best and enjoy it in the process. My passion for always trying to better myself and growing in my industry has led me to take small risks which have even resulted in my work being published in various magazines. If 20 year-old me saw my current life, she would be thankful for all the risks I took to end up where I am and all the amazing places I will go in the future.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an Armenian free-lance makeup artist. I have been in the field since 2015 and have had the opportunity to meet some of the most unique and talented people because of my occupation. I have had the chance to work for all kinds of projects such as commercials and movies.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To me being an artist means fulfilling my inner desires and expressing my emotions creatively and seeing the joy it brings to others. I find my job therapeutic in many aspects and helps me be a better version of myself because of my pursuit to always do better.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first began my makeup career, just like most people, I started my journey with no connections or experience. However, I was determined to make a name for myself and so I did two continuous years of free makeup for events ranging from photo shoots, commercials, runways, and even movies. After working quite hard, I noticed that I was slowly seeing the reward of working for months, with no expectations except self-satisfaction and experience.
