We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Esther Mel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Esther below.
Hi Esther, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The biggest challenge to fit ability in my industry is that in Atlanta The PMU industry is becoming very saturated and on top of that the pandemic and the current recession have literally drop sales in many businesses if not most.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those of you who do not know me my name is esther and I am commonly called as the brave beauty queen I have two college degrees and I worked for a couple years as a quality assurance chemist for several pharmaceutical industries here in the US; I am a mother and wife; I decided to go in the beauty industry because I’ve always love to take care of myself to look beautiful and I also like to make other women feel beautiful in college are used to be a mathematics and science tutor in college and I’ve always like to interact with people and teach them new skills. when I became a mom in my city in Atlanta most of the pharmaceuticals where almost an hour away so it made it very difficult to juggle between my kids school and work ; so I decided to take beauty Trainings, learn new skills and to open my own business so I can have more so I could be able to go on vacation with my family so I can be able to take care of my kids homework to take them to the playground and just spend quality time with my family while having financial freedom trust me this was not an easy process there are still a lot of ups and downs but I’m very proud of myself and I admire the progress overall.. so how did he started I basically went to get my eyebrows micro bladed and I paid about $600 for my eyebrows; initially I was shocked at the price of this service so I literally told myself that I will try to find out about this profession and what are the requirements to get properly trained and obtain a license and the lady who did my eyebrows was very open and to give me the info and she share them with me and that’s how I was able to take a training, get my license and start my business. after practicing for almost a year and starting to professionally do eyebrows I decided to incorporate products like aftercare kits to smooth the healing process for clients and also to help them avoid infections because what the one thing we need to understand is that this process involves micro needles. So as a permanent makeup artist the type of problems that we solve are some ladies are cases of alopecia on the eyebrows area and on unevenness of the overall brow shape so we fix both issues giving them more beautiful overall Look and matching pigment color Based on their natural skin & hair color.
After a few years of practicing permanent make up I developed the love for training I started sharing my knowledge to other aspiring entrepreneurs who were seeking help in the industry or who we’re trying to get into permanent make up field. Ladies will literally fly from one state to Georgia to take my classes they were staying here by hotels for my training center and after training will fly back to the state and open your own business that has me been my biggest accomplishment accomplishments
I am also proud of the fact that our training center have helped several ladies in the metro Atlanta area who already hotspot or who were trying to leave their 9 to 5 jobs these ladies have open their own business today and they are having traveling businesses
We have a crew this woman with the basic knowledge sanitation practices protocols involved in the PMU industry in order to become good artist while owning your permanent make up licenses and opening legal businesses another goal that we also have a BBW Training Institute is that we love to give back to the community and especially kids and pregnant vulnerable women living in poverty; women we have also trained couple young aspiring entrepreneurs at no cost and helped pay school fees, clothing & food for orphans in Africa though @Queenestherfoundation by donating 10% of all sales to this foundation. Our vision is to help and strengthen women through education, empowerment.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Opening a new business takes preparation , spiritual and mental readiness and workflow, systems and protocols consistency.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2020 when Covid-19 hit hard and many businesses where forced to close down I did not give up, I stayed prayed up and focused and in 2021 I was able to reopen my business and made more money.
