We were lucky to catch up with Neha Gupta-Ednie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Neha, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Growing up with a very artistic grandmother, I loved art from the beginning. In school, art class was my favorite especially growing up and I even won prizes for a few competitions for my school back then. Since then I have trained and worked as an interior and graphic designer for over 10 years which is what prompted me to come up with a concept of my own art & design related company. When I was inspired to travel and explore the world more about 7-8 years ago, I had just started to take photography classes at my school Pratt Institute in New York. In the process of traveling, I also got to learn more about different cultures of the world and their arts.
I think the hardest part was coming up with the name because, you know, you need to come up with a name before you create your website or social media accounts. I had a lot of ideas, and I knew it had to do something with art and travel. I was thinking of different names and then I came up with the words Art Nation. I realized there was no such company at the time, and I then put in my name in between and combine the words to make it more unique. My company “Artnehtion” came out as a beautiful result of that!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a multidisciplinary interior designer, graphic designer, artist & photographer who has been extensively trained at both Pratt Institute in New York City & the American University in Dubai.
I have worked in many cities across U.S.A., South-East Asia & the Middle-East where I have designed and executed high-end construction, design, marketing and branding projects for some world renowned retail and commercial brands.
Recently I have been teaching retail design and entrepreneurship classes to young graduates at Pratt Institute in New York City. I also am working on expanding my art and photography business, Artnehtion, after years of dreaming about having my own brand of home decor products, since my friends and family love my decor style. Through Artnehtion, I have a growing photography collection of some of the most gorgeous and famous landscape views and architecture around the world taken by myself and also developing beautiful working relationships with many artists, designers and vendors to source for good quality art & lifestyle products for my work. I have researched the art, design and international manufacturing market to bring you high end art and photography products without sacrificing the quality for an affordable price. Artnehtion was founded for an essence of high-quality travel art and products that have a wanderlust factor to spruce up any home!
We also donate a percentage of all our sales to various charitable causes such as aid for animal shelters, COVID-19 healthcare workers, ACLU and helping keep the oceans and our planet healthier so we are able to keep experiencing the beauty of it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’m not sure if some will consider it rewarding but I find joy in the exploratory part of being an artist and creative! I learned so many different art forms growing up and still love taking classes on things I haven’t already tried before. Especially in times like these, when the pandemic has truly made the world gloomier and lonelier in the last few years and we had more time to ourselves. In this case, learning a new form of art is almost invigorating! The world is always evolving so it’s good to evolve a bit with it and enjoy the changes it brings with it instead of worrying about things and getting stuck in the past. For example, last year I enjoyed learning calligraphy and how to fly a drone camera and hopefully can get into those more going forward!
The way I see it, if I don’t try something at least once or twice, how would I ever learn what I like or love!
This year I am thinking of expanding locally into brick and mortar presence in the North County San Diego area and more! Follow us and stay tuned on our social media for more details!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It’s definitely a work in progress and takes time. I know most people who are famous buy followers but all of my reach is organic. The best way I have found is talking to people within the community. That’s the old school way of growing a business and that’s what I saw my parents do growing up. We also call this networking. Every party, event or even business I visit, if I relate to it in any way, I support it as much as I can and in return I get something of a gratitude back in loyal friends and followers. I would rather have that network of people that resonate with my business and personality than any fake bots/ followers.
