We were lucky to catch up with Matthew Pierrelys recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, appreciate you joining us today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
Yes, i have am signed with MMRunway an Agency in Mexico City, i’d say it was just the right moment in the right time and the result of me networking over the years with people in the industry as well as having an online presence as a model
Some of my friends were already signed with them and had nothing but awesome things to say about the agency, and since i was looking for a change i decided to pursue the idea of getting signed by them
Sent messages introduced myself and the rest is history, they liked me and my work
I took a chance in signing with my current agency as the previous one was not ideal for me and was quite an unpleasant experience but as i later learned it was meant to happen so i could step into a new chapter with new opportunities and new experiences
I feel that our connection was instant and we both knew that we could be great together and work beautifully
Matthew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a model/Actor/creative
I am mostly proud of my story because it’s a hard industry to break into but not impossible and. I’ve always thought that there are no impossibilities in life just the limitations that we put on ourselves, i went against height standards, conventional paradigms of what a model should be or do and have never taken a no for an answer, always with that go-getter attitude and being grateful for each step of the way, the lessons, the good days and the bad days.
I am now entering a new phase in my life which is finding a way to help mantain mental health especially within the modelling business which can get overwhelming at times, and speaking about the unspoken within the industry. The mental issues that it can cause, the always being self conscious about yourself and the insecurities it might bring specially for young models that are learning about the job
How did you build your audience on social media?
Just being myself on social media, which can be hard at first, specially because in this time and age everything is being criticized and people are afraid to be themselves and just imitate what is “trendy” or “popular” but truly just finding your essence in it is the beauty of creating content and being a social media personality, always keep in mind who you are and don’t try to imitate anybody else, the right audience will come at the right time
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There has been more no’s then yes’ in my career and there had been some yes’ that actually didn’t quite make it to the finish line but that doesn’t mean you should get discouraged and keep going because if it was possible once it can be possible twice, i’ve had amazing projects that i’ve been considered for but didn’t end up falling through at the end for whatever reason but those are what i call “glimpses of the future” it just might not be the time for it now and that is okay it shows you what you are capable of and that it is very much possible for it to happen just at the right time and you always have to stay ready for when that opportunity comes
