We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wela Vargas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wela below.
Alright, Wela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve ever made was my studio equipment and working on creating my own in home studio. Being an independent singer & songwriter, I was always in the studio working on new content. I knew I loved creating music and having the equipment at my finger tips to be able to record at Any time was the best option for me. It gave me an opportunity to learn how to record, write better, and understand the other side of just being an artist. I’ve learned that it’s not just being an artist but also being a business.

Wela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a kid I used to love poetry and music. I got Into songwriting by putting my poetry into songs. I won a songwriters award in high school and it pushed me further into music and songwriting.
I am an independent singer and songwriter. I provide songwriting services, performances, and features. I think my versatility sets me apart. Being able to understand how to record on my own as well.
I’m proud of the progress I have made over the years. In my songwriting, vocal ability, and being able to model openly and confidently for my image. My brand is as an independent artist. You’ll see what image is fitting for that time in my music. I am Not one person and image. I am Art.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped build my reputation is being authentic. Being genuine and good to people I work with has helped keep my reputation in my industry and market.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Being a songwriter and an independent artist is not cheap. I think There’s a misconception that all independent artists work together for free or for a low rate; such as videographers, photographers, producers, etc. We all have a business so we need to charge what are business services are worth. There have been times where I had to decide whether to pay one bill for music over another. Not being able to shoot certain content to ensure not going over a budget. It’s all about moving things around and making a way for other income to cover the budget. It can get demotivating but it’s all in what is your dream and the drive behind it.
