We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Reed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I think that as business owners this is where we go wrong. Asking friends and family to support your business can lead to frustration and disappointment. God in all of his wisdom knew that you would start a business and he has so many people out there that will embrace what you have to offer. I don’t believe anyone should limit themselves to only wanting the support of family and friends. Is it okay to want it? Yes. Is it okay to expect it ? No. Should you let it cause you to think you’re not good enough because they aren’t supporting you? Absolutely not. I have found that finding your target audience really does matter. Getting your products in front of the people who really need your product matters. Your product(s) are not for everyone and wont be supported by everyone.
Tiffany , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello my name is Tiffany Reed. I got into the fashion industry in 2010. I have always been business minded and started thinking about being an entrepreneur even as a teenager. I would think about owning my own business, or serving others quite often. By the time I was 22 I made it a reality. Since then I have now realized that I didn’t want to have a business without including God in it. In October 2018 I decided to launch my Christian based business Highly Esteemed by HIM. I wanted to give amazing customer service and infuse my love for God and passion for fashion into a brand. The business name came from the scripture Daniel 9:23
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic I really had to pivot in my business. I had to create a new system and way of processing orders. I had to engage my customers differently and market to them in new ways. I had to start using reels, trending audios and learn to create a buzz for my brand. One of the ways I did this was by launching my brand ambassador program.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I currently sell online. We use a platform called Shopify. I highly recommend Shopify because it’s very easy to use and extremely convenient and can be used even from my phone. I personally also recommend allowing people to have access to purchase your products on Facebook and Instagram as well which is what our team is currently working on building out.
