We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cedric Gilmore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cedric, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

I think that in order to be successful you have to have laser focus. It’s important to stay focused on what you want and not get distracted by others opinions or obstacles that you may encounter. I think you also have to constantly envision goals for yourself and reach them in order to achieve new heights. You shouldn’t be afraid to fail either because after learning from that mistake, it will help you know what to do when a similar problem arises.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m a musician, a music producer and audio engineer. I got into the music business when I wanted to play the piano. I was in middle school and told my grandmother that I had a desire to play the piano. She said that if you pray and ask God to anoint your hands, he’ll do it and I began to pray everyday. After a few months of steady learning and practicing, my skills and understanding of the piano began to increase. Even to this day, there is always something to learn and that is why I enjoy the piano so much.

My Business Dymond Cloud Music LLC is a record label with artists ranging from different genres of music from RnB to hip-hop. We provide studio time at an affordable rate, we have a clothing line and we also have a live band by the name of TuneSquad that people can book for parties, private events, or public gatherings.

What our primary goal is at Dymond Cloud Music is to enable talented artists to be heard on all streaming platforms and provide opportunities that may have been unavailable to them before working together. What sets us apart from other labels is that we provide a lot of benefits and we don’t deal with contracts unless the artists expresses that that’s something they desire.

I am the most proud of the team and their evolving capabilities of talent, songwriting and performing.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

There are times when we’re working with artists and at first their great but after awhile their passion and momentum dies due to not putting in any work. We had to pivot from investing large amounts of money into artists that weren’t serious in perfecting that craft.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I think the key to building a successful fanbase on social media is to grow organically. That means interacting, liking photos, and being active on your personal page. I think it’s also ok to follow people and let them know that you’re out here.
