We recently connected with Diana Brosseau and have shared our conversation below.
Diana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Learning how to paint was pretty organic for me. Putting paintbrush to canvas for the first time in twenty years was a matter of finding inspiration and not thinking too hard. I started out trying to replicate the beauty I saw in sunsets and landscapes. The more time spent painting equaled better work. And it’s kind of snowballed from there. The main obstacle I’ve had painting has just been getting outside of my head and it letting fear overcome my talent.
Diana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a landscape painter. I find inspiration from the beauty of creation and try to replicate it on canvas. Being an artist is a dream Ive had since my early twenties but never had the guts to pursue. I took a couple of painting classes in high school but never in my wildest dreams did I ever believe I could turn something like painting into a business. That all changed when I observed a good friend of mine pick up a paintbrush for the first time and turn her work into a thriving business within a matter of months. I guess seeing someone else turn a dream I’ve always had into a reality gave me the courage I needed to pick up a paintbrush for the first time in decades.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is seeing my art hang in someone’s home. It will never get old. I still can’t believe that I can turn something so enjoyable like painting into a business.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am not necessarily a pro at social media, in fact I would argue that I am terrible at it. But I’ve observed two things: the first is that if you regularly post, you will gain followers. The second is that even if you do not put forth the effort on social media to post and create content, you will still gain a following if your work is good!
