We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diomira D’Agostino a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Diomira , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I were starting over, I would be more discerning about the “expertise” I hired to support me and how much weight I gave to their advice and opinions.
Early on, I recognized my gifts and strengths.
But I also understood I had a lack of knowledge and experience when it came to running a business. I had no idea how to connect with people who could benefit from my work; nor did I know anything about marketing.
This is because prior to 2016, I was mostly word of mouth. My clientele and students came from my spiritual community, existing network, and through the spiritual centers and metaphysical shops I partnered with.
When I decided to expand online, I just had no idea where to begin or what to do. I thought I could just transfer what I was already doing to doing it online.
Soon I realized in the online world everything seemed to work differently. So I hired business coaches and consultants to teach me how to structure and market my work to an online audience.
While I learned valuable tools along the way, I also fell prey to a cookie cutter approach to business, which never felt right to me.
Where I really took a wrong turn is in giving too much emphasis to the opinions of the “experts.” In essence, I ended up giving my power away to others who I thought had the answer, instead of listening to my own intuition when something felt off.
If I were to do it differently, I would still hire experts. But I would take everything they’re saying with a grain of salt. Especially when it comes to subjective and deeply personal business decisions like the name of a program or tagline or how to do sales or what language to use on a sales page.
I would always check in with my own intuition and gut feeling on everything they told me and I would trust myself more. Having the right experts to help you in your business can be a game-changer. It can also lead you down a path that feels really out of touch and out of alignment with your essence and soul.
At the end of the day, it’s my business, and I have to be okay with what I’m sharing and how I’m sharing it.
Diomira , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a spiritual guide and mentor, a spirit and land communicator, and medicine woman who brings enchantment to people’s lives and helps them build a relationship with the sacred ecology of the Earth.
My way of working with people and land has taken many different forms over the years:
As one-on-one work, supporting clients to connect to their own wisdom and inner authority while also stepping into a richer, more expanded relationship with their spirit team and Otherworld allies, sometimes related to the land they’re living on and sometimes connected to the blood and spirit ancestry;
I provide oracular guidance in the form of astrological consults and clairvoyant sessions to support clients on “remembering” who they are and reflecting aspects of their sacred purpose to help them get clarity on their path ahead.
I craft and co-create sacred vibrational medicines in the form of essences from the spirit songs of plants, trees, and other forces of nature;
I have an uncanny ability to hear the whispers of a land and see its energy flows and energetic architecture. I can see where there are blockages and I also can commune with the land’s heart and soul to understand its energetic potential.
Because of this gift, I used to lead spiritual pilgrimages to sacred sites in different countries when the spirits of the land have initiated an invitation to come and co-create with them.
But now I live on a land whose magic and soul have been awakened and activated. So I journey people here, not physically but energetically as a form of soul travel, to experience the healing energies of this place.
I’m also an author of three books. My most recently released one is a spiritual memoir detailing my early spiritual awakening, and it’s called Initiation: My Faery Soul Awakening. I’m told the book is a beautiful story, but it’s also an encoded work of art that has keys that unlock portals within your soul memory to connect you with your own magic and the magic of the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Wholeness and Enchantment. In a world burdened by separation, isolation, and spiritual amnesia (forgetting who we are on a soul level), I desire to create wholeness and to open sacred portals of enchantment to help others awaken and “remember” themselves as being an interdependent part of the Web of Life.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Hands down astrology. Astrology has only become a part of my business and work in the last 3.5 years. All the other spirit work has been a natural part of my work in the world for as long as I’ve been working, but astrology is the most recently developed practice and study. Not only has it been life-changing for my clients when added to our sessions, but it has been incredibly potent to help me understand the greater cycles and themes I’m journeying personally and what energies my business is navigating.
