We were lucky to catch up with Camonique White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Camonique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I decided to start my business I knew that I wanted it to reflect some of my personal attributes that I honor. The name of my business was fostered by the confidence I had within myself. I also wanted to make sure it was something that was rememberable and inspiring. I would often “think outside of the box” when it came to my environment, circumstances & self awareness. It helped to create a safe space for me to dream, prosper & thrive without any limitations. I grew a passion of empowering others to do the same. Individuals who may have experienced the same struggles of the “Unknown” like I once did and still do from time to time. The creation & message holds a valuable purpose in us all to remember that No matter what U-R-Rare.

Camonique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the industry with an essential purpose to empower the wellness of individuals attached with a passion for fashion. I create clothing that promotes self confidence that embraces your individuality. I originally pursed a degree in Hospitality & Tourism but slowly drifted to where i felt more coherent. Although I was ambitious in every area of my life, I struggled with discipline & emotional awareness for a while. My business allowed me to create more discipline within myself. It helped me to be more assertive. I became addicted to making transformations that challenged me. It gave me a liberating sensation that if I could change my mindset, I can change my circumstances and ultimately my life. We all know how challenging life can be. It can bring us grief, anger & injustices but we have to fight through those unforeseen circumstances and continue to live. My brand was created as a confident booster for individuals who possessed strong leadership qualities, authenticity & a passion for humanity. I am most proud of my growth in business. One of my favorite quotes is ” It’s not about how you start, It’s about how you finish”. I want to continue to advocate and inspire individuals that may need reassurance in their purpose or mission of being better than who they were yesterday.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I was a very outgoing individual. From a preteen to my adulthood I participated in many extracurricular activities and positions while gaining many interpersonal skills. My fashion and creativity was something that just set me apart. I did what I was passionate about, I was transparent and stayed true to my niche. My advice to anyone trying to grow their social media presence is to stay consistent to your core values. Create an authentic message with your own voice/aesthetic. It doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing, do what works for you and your brand/business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As you go, things will get easier. In business i had this idea that if I just kept going that it will become easier but in reality it doesn’t. You get only wiser, you grow more resilient, your endurance last longer. You don’t look at failure as a loss but as a learning opportunity. It may seem like it does ease up but there is always room for improvement. You have to constantly adapt to the change of society especially for business because we have to always be in alignment with our brand values & mission.
