Jaliyah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I have always wanted to start my own business. The idea to launch my own cosmetics business repeatedly appeared to me in a dream. I visualized helping thousands of women feel comfortable and beautiful in their skin, while keeping their lips healthy at the same time. I knew Juiced by Jaliyah would be a worthwhile endeavor because I could feel it in my spirit; I was called to help other women. I immediately felt like I finally found my life’s purpose. I have also personally struggled with dry, chapped lips. Although the beauty market is said to be oversaturated, I knew that my business would be different. My main goal is to help women find all natural, nourishing lip care products that solve common lip issues like dry, cracked, or peeling lips. I specialize in handcrafting lip care that aims to heal and soothe lips using the best vegan ingredients. This unique approach to the beauty space – combining all natural healing properties with a cosmetic flair, has attracted countless women to shop Juiced by Jaliyah from all over the world. Helping women find natural lip care treatments will never cease to excite me, and I look forward to sharing my solution to common lip care problems with as many women as possible.

Jaliyah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am Jaliyah, I’m 23 years old, and I’m from West Palm Beach, Florida. Three years ago, I created Juiced by Jaliyah. I created Juiced by Jaliyah as a solution to heal my own lip care issues. I could never find lip care products that healed dry, chapped lips. Even when I thought I had, most of those products contained harsh ingredients and came with crazy side effects. My business solves this issue by introducing handcrafted, all natural, hydrating lip care that heals and soothes dry, chapped, cracked, or peeling lips. Our special mix of ingredients aims to heal lips by repairing lips, conditioning and maintaining your lips’ natural moisture, softening your lips, and providing a consistently glassy shine. Our product line consists of various hydrating lip glosses to choose from in shades that meet every woman’s needs. We offer hydrating glitter glosses, tinted glosses, nude and clear glosses. We are also very open to feedback from our clients – they can request special gloss shades if they would like. I am extremely proud to help women from all over find a solution to common lip care issues that works! My brand would be nothing without the customers that constantly support, and I am so grateful to be able to help countless women. Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

We all have heard that being an entrepreneur definitely isn’t easy. Resilience is key to remain grounded while maintaining your business. I have been an entrepreneur for three years now and I would do it all over again if I had to. I have learned so many things and I have met so many wonderful people. However, I have definitely come across many bumps in the road. I’ve had issues with product vendors, my site has crashed several times before, and adjusting to life as a business owner can be hard. I’m a firm believer in the saying that things in life that are worth it never come easy. In times where I am stressed, or it seems like nothing is going right with my business, I always come back to the reason why I started Juiced by Jaliyah in the first place, to share my solution to a common problem with as many women as possible. My “why” and the constant outpour of love and support from my customers keeps me going.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

For now, I use Etsy as my main website – etsy.com/shop/juicedbyjaliyah. I would highly recommend Etsy for new business owners as it is easy to set up your shop without any help from website developers or graphic designers. Additionally, the fees for selling on Etsy are also cheaper compared to other platforms like Shopify that give you the opportunity to create your own site. You can also set up an Etsy shop quickly, and start accepting orders as soon as you are ready. On the other hand, you do not have your own site, and you have to follow Etsy’s rules. Eventually I will build my own site, and keep my Etsy shop open for my clients that are already familiar with Etsy and the shopping experience provided by them.
