We were lucky to catch up with Ray recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ray thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
It was a Friday night in the living room with the family and we were discussing something that was happening in the news, and that was when the idea came to light, YLSNE. There is a ton of information out there that people have absolutely no clue about, and it could help them in almost every aspect of their lives. That is where we come in. We are here to spread information that may seem boring at first, but when you really dig into the information, you can see how valuable it really is.
The thing that makes us unique and most excited is our brand and our approach to getting the information out to the masses. We want to make learning fun and show people that you really can learn something new everyday.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Ray and I was born and raised here in Southeast San Diego. I started my company YLSNE two years ago and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Since I was a child, I have always loved learning new things and as I have gotten older, I am learning how to apply that new knowledge to my everyday life.
YLSNE is an acronym for You Learn Something New Every day. YLSNE was started to encourage and help with lifelong learning. Learning something new every day is not only beneficial mentally; it is also beneficial physically. Picking up a new book, researching new topics, and getting new information from our peers are all ways to stimulate thought and action. We here at YLSNE understand that and are here to inform the people about subjects and topics that are not necessarily common knowledge, but should be. We are unbiased when we speak on our podcast because the information speaks for itself. We are proud of our brand and our logo and we hope that when people see it, they are encouraged to learn something new.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We are still building our social media presence, and we have realized that this is one of the hardest parts about running a business. It is definitely a slow grind if you don’t pay for followers and it will test your patience, but the payoff will be worth it in the end.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When covid hit, I think everyone was forced to pivot whether they realize it or not. After getting laid off due to covid, I made the decision to pivot from being a worker, to becoming a business owner. It was a decision I am thankful for everyday and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the me and the business.
