We were lucky to catch up with Myriam Moreno recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myriam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
since I was very young, I knew I wanted to have a business of my own but I never really had an Idea of what to do. I come from a medical background. I was a medical assistant and phlebotomist for several years before opening my esthetics shop. The idea came to me after my son was diagnosed with autism. He was diagnosed a couple of days before his third birthday. His daycare was not equipped to handle children like my son so I would get phone calls on a daily basis to pick him up and I would have to miss work for it. I felt so defeated at times because I could not provide for my family and take care of my child at the same time. One day I was watching Dr. Pimple Popper and it clicked for me. I knew I needed to find something that I loved to do, where I could come up with my own schedule and also be able to make money to help my husband provide for our family. The next day, I went, toured a school in town, and I signed up after that. I quit my job and went to school full time and finished in nine months. Passed my board testing and opened my shop right after that. My son having autism was a total shock to us but it has been one of our biggest blessings. He is eight now and attends regular school but he still comes in with me on the weekends from time to time.
Myriam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of Course, I am a licensed esthetician in the beauty industry, I have been in business for the past 6 years. We reside in Dalton which is about an hour or so from Atlanta. We provide all kinds of cosmetics treatments such as facials, chemical peels, permanent makeup, body work and so many other treatments too. My passion is definitely skin and I am ready to serve everyone with their skin care needs. It takes a lot of sacrifices and discipline to be able to have your own business. Early mornings, late nights, working on weekends, its definitely not for all. I believe that my knowledge, staying on top of skin care trends and my work ethic is what sets me apart from others, I try my best to always accommodate all of my clinetele no matter what. all of my clients know that I also go above and beyond for them regarding their skin care.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Yes, actually. We have branched out to making alot of home products for our clients. Not only do we service them with facials and other skin related treatments but we have also started making and have our very own line for cosmetics aswell. We produce most of our line ourselves. We carry cleansers, toners, lotions, body scrubs, make-up, and candles too. Most of our line is organic and all natural as well. We try our best to provide the best quality in our products at a great price. The creation of this line has been a great success with our clients.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My favorite books that have helped me see my business differently and helped me grow it as well. They are also great for everyone and everyday life.
1. You are a bad ass at making money by Jen Sincero. All of her books are incredible.
2. Girl, Wash your face by Rachel Hollis.
I also like the Dave Ramsey books, they are great for everyone that is trying to budget, get out of debt and grow more financial stability.
