Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Baraka McCann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Baraka thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I started my creative career later than I would have liked. I always knew that I wanted to be a model and Art director, but it took me a while to figure out what kind of artist I wanted to be.
When I was younger, I wanted to be a model–but then as I got older, the idea of being an Art director became more appealing. And then when I was in high school, I became best dress, and even in College from every direction about how i dress and should put my work online or a blog. So even though it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned for myself as an artist when I was younger, it seemed like a good opportunity at the time.
If I had started earlier on in life–like right after high school—then maybe things would’ve been different! For one thing, there wouldn’t have been as much competition when it came down to finding jobs in this industry; there weren’t nearly as many people trying out digital fashion blogging back then compared to now.
Baraka, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have a styling business in editorial. I’ve always been fascinated by the way people express themselves through fashion. It’s so much more than just what you wear–it’s an expression of who you are, how you feel, and what you want to be seen as.
I’ve always been interested in helping people find their own unique style, so that they can express themselves more fully. That’s why I started this business: to help people find their own personal style and make it work for them!
I’m most proud of being able to help others look good without compromising who they are or what makes them unique. The key is finding pieces that fit your body type and personality–and then making those pieces your own by pairing them with accessories or other items that reflect who YOU are!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to express yourself in new ways. I love that I can take my ideas, my inspirations and my vision and turn them into something tangible that I can share with others. It’s like having a conversation with the world!
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think NFTs are a great way to get your art out there and into the world. I’ve always been a fan of the idea that art should be accessible to everyone, and I think NFTs are a good way to make that happen.
