We recently connected with Sarah Medina and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am so happy owning my own business. Yes I’ve thought about just having a regular job and it makes me feel trapped, controlled, and honestly really sad. The last time I had the thought of just having a regular 9-5 was mid last year when I had my lowest income month. As a business owner, you are in control of everything. Nobody hands you a paycheck every week, nobody guarantees you work, you need to provide the work yourself. So when I had my lowest income month, I thought about that income stability but quickly got myself out of those thoughts because I would be giving up the freedom, flexibility, and happiness that my business brings me. It just made me work even harder because I never want to go back to working for somebody else again.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi I’m Sarah! A fun, creative, Latina entrepreneur here to support you with Instagram, content, and video. I have a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and started my business in the middle of the pandemic. I support creators and brands so they can focus on what they do best while I take care of the rest. Instagram management, content creation, and strategy sessions are just a few of the services I provide. Social media marketing is powerful and I love supporting business owners accomplish both their personal and business goals through it. I’m most proud of helping business owners live the life they want to live because I’m a big believer in work hard, play harder.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by showing up, creating genuine connections, and providing value. My number one though would be by just being myself. I went out of my comfort zone because I knew that people needed to know me as a person. I get constant DMs of people telling me that they love my energy and personality. My clients chose to work with me simply because of who I am as a person. Of course because of my work as well but there are so many other businesses doing the same thing I am. What truly will differentiate your business is YOU. My advice would be to not be afraid to put yourself out there. Be silly, show up as authentically you, it doesn’t have to be all business. It gets easier with practice, I promise.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn was that selling was bad. I thought that people would be annoyed of me always talking about my offers or be turned off by it when in reality: selling is serving. There are people out there looking for your products and services. If you don’t talk about them, how will you help others? Selling is serving. One of my coaches taught me that and I am forever grateful.
