We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful OfficialX. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xavier below.
Hi OfficialX, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was 5 years old I always came up with lyrics while in the shower or as I was playing. Sometimes I would write these lyrics down and try to create what I thought was a song. I remember when I was younger I would always have my cousins, classmates during recess, or friends reciting the lyrics that I wrote or performing choreography that I came up with. It wasn’t until I was 9 years old and I had received my first iphone and I would record voice memos of me freestyling, and my aunt (who was a musician at the time) had instrumental’s downloaded on my laptop. I remember the instrumentals so vividly, it was “Knockin’ da Boots” H-Town and “Feel it in the Air” by Beanie Sigel. I would record voice memos over those beats. About a month later I went to my very first studio session where I recorded my first 2 songs. The lyrics were so elementary. I was always on and off with creating music growing up, and I always was afraid of what people would think or what they would have to say. I was so young and afraid of criticism so I never shared those releases publically except with my close relatives.
When I was 16 year’s old I realized that music was my calling and God blessed me with one of his many great gifts. I looked pass what I thought other’s woud think and just jumped in, and I released a remix of “Oochie Wally” by QB Finest. The feedback I got from it was great and since then I’ve been blessed to release 1 Ep, 1 album, and 12 singles. I realzied that my music may not be for everyone just like some genres of music aren’t for me. I know that there are people out there with the same experiences and thoughts as myself who can resonate with me and my music.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Xavier but I go by the name of OfficialX, I am from Baltimore, Maryland and I am 20 year’s old. I started professionally rapping when I was 16 year’s old and I haven’t stopped since. I’ve released an Ep titled “Lost Files” and 1 album titled “Nueva Arte”, when translated from Spanish it means “New Art”.
I think what set’s me apart from other’s is the way that I express myself and that in some of my raps I rap in Spanish. Many ask what inspired me to rap in Spanish, one of the reason’s is because I’ve been learning Spanish for over 6 years and not just that I don’t see other musicians rapping in Spanish who isn’t from a Spanish speaking country. I can’t do the same as other artist and expect to stand out, humbly speaking I believe that is one of the many things that set’s me apart.
I can say the things that I am most happy to have accomplished is finally sharing my music with everyone. For so long I have been afraid to share the gifts that I’ve been blessed with, with others. Finally I have the confidence to share it. I am happy that I’ve been able to release 2 projects and 8 music videos. I am so grateful that I am able to perform on stage and entertain others.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is that we can express ourselves in different ways. I am able to write how I’m feeling and get in the booth and “lay it down”. For so long I didn’t know that as an artist I had the ability and creative freedom to do that.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would say what is driving my creative journey is that I have a purpose in what I am doing. I’m not sure exactly what it is but I want to be the voice for others like me, who may not feel heard sometimes or who feel underestimated sometimes. I know that I’ve been called by God to do this and share my gift with the world!
