Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lia Biscardi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
So if you look at my title, you may be confused by the words “photo marketing strategist.” If I introduced myself as a photographer, people assume I take family photos. However, I am a product photographer who helps clients create a photography strategy to market themselves on social media.
This is important for me to stand out because 99% of product photographers just take the product photos pass them off to the client and never worry about it again. However, since I work with small business owners, I focus on the fact that most small businesses don’t know how to market their visuals properly.
So when you work with me as a client, you are a client for life. I am always there when you launch new products, I am there to educate you about how to use the photos more effectively and your all-around cheerleader.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Lia Biscardi. I am a native of Rochester, NY, known for garbage plates and Kodak. I grew up in Spencerport with my large Italian family. I was immersed in traditional Italian family valuables, including finding ways to celebrate every little win with food. I have a younger brother and many cousins.
I am currently living in Kinston, NC, enjoying the revitalized town. I am getting the most out of the North Carolina beauty by constantly traveling to the beach and the mountains to find hidden gems. I focus primarily on landscape and animals using a Canon DSLR. When I am not taking pictures, I enjoy many other hobbies, including baking, reading, traveling, and arts & crafts. My photography specialties include portrait, landscape, and product photography.
I work with women-based product-based business owners who struggle with receiving the sales they want. I assist in creating stunning visual images for their e-commerce websites to increase their traffic and the sales they want! When you take time taking your own photos, to take time away from working for your customers. I work with these product based business owners and help them with the three step process of photo marketing.
I actually use a lot of my science degree as inspiration because when you are photographing products, its a lot about trial and error. My creative mind allows me to come up with some out of the box ideas
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
So, its a long story. However in June 2021 I went through a career change. I have a degree in biochemistry and taught 8-10th graders science. However, once the pandemic hit, I realized that I wasn’t truly living so I quit teaching and started my own photography business. Im not just a photographer through Im a product photographer who specializes in visual storytelling. I work with business owners to make their products say “look at me, I have a story to tell” rather than just “buy me.”

I believe that my career change and expertise give me a different perspective through a creative mind. I am a former science teacher who has taken her skills from the classroom to helping small business owners find their creativity. My main two forms of photography are product and portraits.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is and will always be overwhelming for business owners because there are constantly coaches, content creators and marketing professionals who give you advice on how you “should” operate your social media.
However, I have learned that growing my audience was not about going viral or having a massive amount of followers. The main focus for social media should be virtually creating genuine human connections. Building connections leads to trust and trust leads to sales. I discuss this a lot in my book called “Finding Purpose in Pivoting Your Business Journey”
