We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Suhay Gonzalez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Suhay , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

I took a risk by investing my own funds to bootstrap my small business. Utilizing my saving to develop, create and launch my brand required dedication, planning and self accountability. As a new brand and experienced Financial Officer, I knew that I had to believe in myself and put my own money to work. Ultimately, funding my business has provided me the opportunity to maintain all creative, production and execution control but most importantly, gives me the chance to donate a portion of the annual profit towards brain tumor research, in honor of my mother; she was a beauty enthusiast.

Suhay , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Seis Cosmetics is a brand with a cause. After the lost of my mother, to Glioblastoma brain tumor, I was devastated. Initially, I did not know anything about the rare brain tumor but it was front and center in life. I made the conscious decision not to take life for granted and convert my sadness by using my creativity and love for cosmetics, something my mother and I shared, to launch an exceptionally beautiful brand. My mission is to provide superior products and donate a portion of the profit to brain tumor awareness and Glioblastoma tumor research; funds will go towards funding cutting edge global research in effort to find a cure in honor of my mother.

Seis Cosmetics strives to provide a variety of superior products from lip care to color cosmetics for everyone regardless of age, gender or skin tone!

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

Seis Cosmetics is manufactured in the United States. Quality should never be compromised since skin is our biggest organ. Therefore, meticulous attention was placed into ensuring our manufacturers complied with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and European Union (EU) standards. We are also certified cruelty free by Leaping Bunny.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Seis Cosmetics is 100% bootstrapped. Personally funding the company was important in order to maintain full creative control. As a founder, launching with investors may have alter my vision and dilute my ownership and that’s not something I was willing to entertain. Although, there’s pros and cons to bootstrapping, I am proud of my decision. My intensive financial and business backgrounds allows me incorporate my experience into my own business. As Seis Cosmetics continues to successfully grow, exploring capital options is an opportunity to explore.
