We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MilesPerHour a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MilesPerHour thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Well for one, i think that genuinely believing i can make it in the music industry might make me borderline insane. But I’m okay with that. It’s been a long journey as an independent artist, so far. One of my proudest moments up to this point though has been putting together my own show for artists, including me, to perform in front of a live crowd. It was such a great turn out and I’m excited to see what i create next, whether it’s music, another show, or whatever else pops up in this beautiful mind of mine. I’m willing to continue taking risks even if i fail 99 times, cause that 100th time could very well be the jackpot!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am MilesPerHour, and i am a music artist. I have a hefty catalog of songs that I’ve built up and would love for you all to explore them on your favorite streaming platform whenever time permits. I’ve always been interested in music but one day i decided to create instead of solely being a consumer forever. I would much rather create a lane for myself instead of having a “regular job.”
This does NOT mean that I’m not a hard worker. I believe it means the opposite. I’ve been getting the feeling that I’m ready to take on the challenges of chasing what i truly want in this life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I graduated from college in 2019 but, like many, soon decided that that wasn’t really the lane for me. I found myself pivoting through multiple different jobs until i ultimately became… a teacher! Yes i am in education. For my current journey it just makes the most since regarding time, compensation, and most importantly morality. I feel like I’m making a difference in peoples lives every single day. Only thing is, I’ve learned that if i want my music career to truly take off then i may need to go all in creatively. So essentially right now I’m considering another huge pivot but just stay tuned
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson i had to unlearn was that all my friends or the people i know would be a fan of what i do for longer than my first couple of releases. Although it is a really good feeling to receive it from others, I’m not entitled to anyone’s enjoyment or support. So i make music that i like and that i am proud of before anything else
