We recently connected with Jermany Coney and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jermany, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I’ve never been one to avoid attention. I’ve always loved taking pictures. But, when I first started my instagram page I had no idea I’d be able to monetize it into a career. I originally started my page as a way to connect with family and friends. After having my page for a couple of years people would randomly reach out to me asking me to promote their local businesses. After be approached multiple times is when I realized that this could actually be a source of income. I started taking my social media more seriously. I became more intentional about what I posted. I started to research how to monetize my platform. I began working on my following and my engagement. I honestly became obsessed! I started to look for and follow other social media content creators that were well established. I learned as much as I could about the social media world. After years of staying consistent I finally landed my first paid partnership. At that moment I knew I really had something special. I continued to build on my social media, research the industry, network as much as possible and really put myself out there. For a while it was really just a side hustle but I always knew it could be so much more. After booking multiple paid partnerships I officially launched my business as a content creator and social media marketing company.
Jermany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jermany and I am I content creator based in Houston, TX. I am the owner of Jermanyonline LLC which is my social media marketing company that helps brands with product launches, promotion and media content. Brands lean on content creators to help strengthen their social media presence and community which is were I come in to help. I work with both mainstream and local businesses over challenges such as reaching target audiences and finding new ideas for content. I’m available to bridge the gap between the business and the audience that they are trying to reach. I am so proud of the work I’ve done so far. I had the opportunity to work with Lyft for the 2020 rock the vote campaign encouraging people to get to the polls. It was definitely one of the biggest and most meaningly brand partnerships I’ve done. I want my audience and clients to know that it’s important to me that I work with brands that I’m passionate about.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The only way I’ve ever known to build a social media presence is by being social on social media. You have to do the work. You have to use the platform to network as much as possible. That means constantly following people, sending DM’s commenting, liking, sharing and being as authentic and genuine as possible, There is no way around it. I’ve had my Instagram page for years and I really wish I would’ve done more earlier. In the beginning, all I thought about was my following but it’s also a lot about building relationships. Once I started to take building relationships on social media seriously, I started seeing the changes and elevation I was missing. My advice, take out 30 minutes every day strictly to engage with others on social media. Find pages/people that inspire you and engage with those pages and that audience. It’s possible to build a great presence and audience it just takes time and a willingness to do the work,
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Consistency! When clients see that you’re consistent, reliable and provide quality content you will always win. I also pitch a lot and I’m not afraid of rejection. This has helped me tremendously with building relationships and booking brand partnerships. I don’t wait for opportunities. I go out and make them. I seek opportunities whenever and however I can find them. I also work to prepare myself accordingly ( I read books, I attend seminars, I go to masterclasses) so that when I do get those opportunities I can execute them in the best way possible.
