We were lucky to catch up with Lady Cam recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lady Cam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have a few times earned a living from being creative. I was on a national tour a few years ago and loved every second of it, except when I lost my shoes, we got our vehicles broken into and robbed, and my watch broke on stage. I have to put together my own tour and make funny videos to be scene. All you have to do and do it with whatever you have. Never wait on the right time because there’s no such thing. I tend to be a perfectionist and find myself waiting for certain things to happen in order for me to go, instead of making my own way and do it with faith. Speeding up the process will mess up your journey, so I wouldn’t necessarily change the way it happened. I just pray for longevity now that I have more education and experience.
Lady Cam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the music business through talent shows and performances. I was born in Dallas Tx and raised in Louisiana. My mother Sharon who is now deceased helped me launch my career by helping me with my stage show and taking me to studios and venues to perform. She is my #1 fan. I want to make a difference in people’s lives with the music and influencer content that I put out and create. I call myself Ms. Get it Got it as well. I call myself that because I go for my goals and dreams no matter what even when I don’t feel like it at times. My discipline is me wanting to do what I do because it brings me so much joy and purpose. I also notice the effect it has on others. What sets me apart from others is my sound and style.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do to support artist is to share and tell others of their work. Even if you don’t have enough money to go to a show or buy merch, tickets, music, ect…. The next best thing is to spread the word to others so that the right person who can invest in them can do so. Even on social media the most shares I get are from people I don’t know. I think them so much. The better my post to the more awareness my music and videos get.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think non-creatives will struggle to understand about our journey as creatives is that sometimes we don’t want to post online or be creative on certain days. There are times where I don’t want to be on social media because it can be draining at times. Sometimes I feel like I wouldn’t even have a social media if I wasn’t in the entertainment industry. What keeps me going is my Motional Mondays as well as my music. I’ve had so many people tell me how inspirational those videos are. I love to sow into people’s lives to make them better. I’ve realized everyone doesn’t have a person who enlightens them and gives them wisdom to be better. We all need that push at times.
