We recently connected with Ramon Medina and have shared our conversation below.
Ramon , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
I’ve had so many client success stories since I started my business, but the one that stands out the most has been Deandra. Her story is so inspirational and aligns the most with why I started a fitness business in the first place. When I first met Deandra she had some big weight loss goals as well as the goal to be healthier in every sense of the word. She was at risk for diabetes and was relying on medication to deal with these health concerns. I knew that I could help her and her story resonated with me on a different level. We trained together 3x a week with a focus on correcting her imbalances, strength training, conditioning, and most importantly her nutrition. What started out as a challenge to get through the warm ups eventually turned into her first 5k. After the first 5k was completed, she had a new goal. She wanted to run more of the 5k than she would walk. She crushed that goal and then set hers eyes on the next 5k where she actually ran the whole thing. All along the way she continued to get stronger, build endurance, and build confidence. The most rewarding part for me came when she had a doctor check up and we found out that her A1C had lowered to a normal range and all her other health markers were falling in line as well. She was also taken off all except for one of her medications. She had taken her health into her own hands and was now running 5ks, literally turning her health around, and had lost almost 100lbs. When I think of success from a client perspective as well as a business perspective, Deandra always comes to mind. This is the story I had always envisioned when I started my business.
Ramon , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always tell people that “my why” or my calling as some people would call it, actually found me. I moved to Dallas, from Illinois in 2017, I had never been to Dallas but took the leap anyway, trusting that God had a plan for me. I began my fitness career by coaching group classes at Evolve, a gym located in downtown Dallas. In 2018, I moved to a boutique style gym and started by coaching group classes. Eventually I started doing personal training sessions and was made the GM. The big change in my career path and ultimately the start of “BODYXRAMON” happened in 2020, the year of COVID. When the gym was forced to close, I made a pivot and started training my clients virtually. I was very fortunate to have clients/friends that believed in me and trusted me to continue helping them through their goals. It was also at this time that I realized that my clients didn’t care where I was training them, they just wanted to train with me. In July of 2020, I decided to bet on myself and not return to a gym. I turned my 2 car garage into a fully equipped private training studio and I haven’t looked back since.
I currently offer private training ( 1 on 1), semi private training (2-4 people), and online coaching. I specialize in women’s fitness, strength & conditioning, weight loss, and body transformations. I’ve been blessed to have a number of long term clients over the last couple of years including Jada Gonzales, the current Miss Dallas. We’ve been working together for a year and half. Since working together she placed 3rd runner up at the International Ms. competition, was awarded Best Ms. Fitness of 2021, and most recently won Americas Most Beautiful Best in Swimsuit.
I ultimately want people to know that BODYXRAMON isn’t about me, the trainer. BODYXRAMON is all about the clients. I became a fitness professional because I wanted to help people feel better, move better, look better but most of all learn how to live long, healthy lives. I want BODYXRAMON not to only be recognized as a business but also as a lifestyle.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
With the dominance of social media, it’s so easy to get exposure for your business. You can post client transformations, reviews, videos sharing tips/tricks and hundreds of people can be reached within a few hours however, this isn’t what has been the most effective for me. The most effective strategy has been and always will be getting clients results that exceed what they asked for. I take pride in being extremely good at what I do. Every client that I work with is a walking billboard for my business and happy clients will always speak kind words on your behalf. I genuinely believe this is true for any business. If you want to grow your client base, start off by making sure your existing clients receive a level of service way beyond what they expected. Take care of your people and the rest will take care of itself.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Starting your own business is one of the scariest and most risky things you can do. Despite starting a new business in the middle of a pandemic, my biggest life pivot happened in 2017 when I made the decision the move away from everyone and everything I knew. I had worked for Enterprise Rent a Car for almost 8 years. I was the manager for 2 locations and in line to become the next area manager. Despite everything I had going right for me, I didn’t feel fulfilled. I had always felt like I was meant to do something bigger, something outside of the walls of my hometown. I ended up quitting my job with ERAC and moved to Dallas. I had never been here before and didn’t know anyone here. It was just me and my best friend at that time. I’m thankful even today that I had a friend take that risk with me because I wouldn’t have taken that leap alone. I wouldn’t be who I am today without that friend. There was a feeling of freedom but also feelings of fear, sadness, and loneliness. I went through a period of culture shock coming from a city that was 31,000 people to now being in a city the size of Dallas. I had literally flipped my whole life upside down.
