We recently connected with Amy Lam and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
It took me a while to think of a name. I didn’t want to be another “Beauty by Amy” page, I wanted something that had meaning.
One day my little sister was wearing a shirt that says Amour on it and it clicked! Eyemour! It was perfect for my business. I wanted to start with eyelashes, but later add on to it.
Eyemour means, love who you see. It may seem crazy or vain to tell a woman to get eyelashes, facials, or pmu to make herself feel beautiful, but getting simple stuff like lashes, nails, or hair can change everything about you. Not just how you look on the outside but also the in. If you love who you see in the mirror, you will feel better about yourself and your surroundings.
Amy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I deced to become an aesthetician when I was 30 yrs old. I just got out of a bad relationship and was in a bad place in my life. Aesthetics save me. For some reason, learning how to make others feel good about themselves made me feel good about myself.
I’m most proud of the fact that I decided to open my business in San Antonio. I’m from Atlanta and I just took a leap of faith and open my own suit. Luckily everything has been great for me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started in a city where I knew no one. I didn’t even have a friend yet when I started. If I didn’t have social media, I probably wouldn’t have any business. My advice is to post on all platforms. Keep posting and keep sharing. Ask your clients to take photos and tag you. On slow days, make flyers and post them.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Working alone is tough especially in a city where you are practically alone. There are times when I wanted to move back home. Everyone at home even ask me why I moved S.A when I had such a great life in Atl. I guess I fell in love with my clients and all the people God brought into my life here.
There were months where I didn’t make enough and I had to drive to Amazon to make sure I had enough for rent. But I believed in myself. I worked so hard in the past to help build other people’s companies so I knew I could do it myself. I know how hard it can be in this industry. But the thing about the beauty world is that you cannot give up. You have to keep at it until your books are full!
