We were lucky to catch up with Chrissy Santos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrissy, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I started my business over 10 years ago as a hobby. It was called Chrissy’s Custom Creations. I realized over time that businesses that use a first name seem more: hobbyist and less likely to be taken seriously. I wanted to establish a brand that meant something and encompassed all of the products we produce. During covid quarantine, I decided to quit my corporate job and do a complete rebranding after a decade in order to run my business full time. It was the best decision I have ever made. I had input from customers, families and friends. Ultimately, I wanted a nod to where I came from (Charleston, SC) as well as an all encompassing word that would allow customers and potential customers to want to know more. I want to be known as a one stop shop. Thus, The Palmetto Market was born. I designed both our color schemes and logo and now incorporate it into every vein of our business and could not be more proud!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In 2011, I started making home decor and gifts for baby showers and weddings. Word began to spread about how unique my gifts were that it became expected! With the encouragement of my husband, I started Chrissy’s Custom Creations where I specialized in personalized gifts. The business quickly grew and trying to maintain a business and work full time became impossible. I decided to leave corporate in 2020, and run my business full time while creating laser engraved wood and acrylic gifts and decor for any occasion. I really love to provide gifts for other small businesses such as real estate agents, while giving them unique branding items they can use to stand out in the market! I quickly realized my passion and desire and made the decision to completely rebrand my business. Thus, The Palmetto Market was born! The Palmetto Market stands out from other businesses by provided a one stop shop whether it be for birthdays (party decor, favors and gifts), weddings (invitations, wedding party gifts, guest favors, centerpieces and reception decor), or even Christmas gifts (something for everyone on your list). We work with our customers one on one to create personalized gifts and decor that are both unique and affordable while providing a unique experience using our creativity and design expertise!
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I have my own website through Shopify that I have built to accompany all of the traction we receive through our Facebook and Instagram following. We have shops on both social media platforms that highlight our popular products and then our website houses our hundreds of products. We have grown quickly due to word of mouth and while someone may find us through social media, they are then directed to our website where they have the opportunity to become a longterm customer of ours.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Be you! Customers want to see your products but they also want to see you! We try to keep an even marketing mix of both products, us using the products, behind the scenes of creating products, shipping products, and product reviews from our customers. Some of our best performing posts, videos, reels and stories all contain parts of the list I just mentioned. When you create a cohesive brand, you become a steady thought in your customer’s mind and their go to person when they are looking for gifts and decor.
