Vida, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

A risk I have taken in life was when I decided to pursue my business full time. I perceived leaving corporate America, after working for so many years in banking, a risk because of comfortability. But I believe in order to be successful you have to become uncomfortable. I learned so much professionalism throughout my corporate career that running a business was second nature to me. Having experience in project management and development, accounting, training, years of supervisory skills, quality assurance development; I just knew I was prepared to spearhead my very own world-renowned company. My business, Keep It Sexy (KIS) is composed of several entities that offer goods and services to help our customers express creativity personally and professionally. KIS core values are diversity and inclusion, innovation, and collaboration. Our vision is to assist all in creating opportunities to elevate their life wholistically.
I have always had a passion to help others. KIS was born with the idea of beauty, not in a vain connotation, however in an empathetic manner. We want people to understand that they are beautiful the way they are, smart, and innovative. KIS creates an opportunity for people to tailor their clothing, accessories, and ideals to their own personality and elevate personally and professionally. I worked in banking, and one thing about banking is the perspective, you get to see how a large percent of America handles their financial affairs, you get to hear their plight, and understand what’s important to them; I took that information as an opportunity to help in my own way.
Fashion Design and being a self-taught seamstress allows me to sew articles of clothing, bring happiness and increase the self-esteem of others. Our appearance dictates a lot in society, and I believe that it is important to remain individualistic in our garment choices because it speaks volumes about who we are; KIS offers one-of-a-kind resin art, business consulting, educational classes, and natural hair care. These are the areas that I excel, and in turn have created a platform to resolve the issues identified.
I decided to have a different perspective on my experience, and that is when I took the leap of faith and took my success into my own hands; I strongly believe as long as you are genuinely helping others success is sure to follow. KIS went from production on a dining room table, to pop up events, online sales and now a boutique. When what you are trying to accomplish is for the greater good, there isn’t anything that can stop you, there is no ceiling, and you are your own competition, I became uncomfortable and took the risk of working for myself and it has paid off tremendously by the grace of God and my willingness to help others in every way I am capable. At this point I have only touched a small portion of the world, but the world will know KIS and I am so excited. Risking it for yourself is one thing but risking it for the greater good is something far more rewarding!

My name is Vida Patrice, I am a self taught seamstress, fashion designer, and creative. I offer everything custom, custom designed and sewn garments for men and women, custom resin art, business consulting, and natural hair care catered to your specific needs, I was driven to create my very own business because I did not see the passion in the big brands, nor did I see the actual needs of people being met. People need individuality, no two people are alike, and everyone’s goals are different. We need to be able to have our clothing tailored to fit because what is on the rack doesn’t fit the average American, Based on my experience talking to Americans in banking; people have a very low understanding of banking, finance, and money management which equates to business management. KIS offers consulting and resources to assist get your Entrepreneural dreams started correctly and the education and resources to keep it organized. Resin art is ordered custom with unique pictures and or designs to help express our customers individuality. Lastly, our natural hair care is primarily dread loc maintenance, helping keep the natural locs clean, neat, and beautiful. I am most proud that I am able to focus on my talents and share them with the world for a livable profit; I am very grateful for that.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My goal as Vida Patrie is to become a world-renowned fashion designer and seamstress. The mission behind that is to have the world-wide platform to help people on a more everyday level. Fashion is something I am passionate about, and coincidently clothing is worn by everyone and something that is a necessity. However, no matter where you are from, we all have similar problems with clothing off of the rack, thy are not tailored to fit our measurements. Once we have clothing that fits our specific measurements, the garment will fit so well and skyrocket a person’s confidence. Why, you may ask. Because We are beautiful just the way we are, but we have to be who we are to really see it. The clothes on the rack as for mannequins, but when KIS measures you, the way you were created and the garments fits you perfectly, oh my!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

It is absolutely rewarding to see how happy my customers are when I have brought their custom designs to life helped them accomplish a goal. I really enjoy doing projects for big and or important occasions because it’s like I am a part of it a little bit. All of my work is made with love, so I like that aspect of it and that is very rewarding to me,
