Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cindy Flynn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cindy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Social Media! Ha! Love it or hate it?!?! Possibly addicted to it? A necessary evil? A blessing and a joy? People say a lot of things about social media. Yes there is good and there is bad. For Cinflynnart, I love it! I handle all of the social media myself and it can be overwhelming. The algorithm is constantly changing and you have little control. However, social media allows me to connect with artists and people all over the world! I’ve chatted with artists in Europe and Australia and I have followers both near and far. I try to post relevant content and showcase my work and my products but recently I’ve started posting what I call “Studio Chats.” I video a chat from my studio and share it with my followers. It is a ton of fun. I imagine myself having a one on one conversation with a friend and just chat. I talk about my latest work, my love for my college team(GO DAWGS!), what is happening in my art world and whatever might be on my mind. I get good feedback and plan to keep up with those chats! In my first video, I wore a pair of peach colored glasses and a few people made comments about them. I’ve worn purple and teal glasses and love all of them! A friend told me I’m known as the artist with the glasses. I’m good with that!
Cindy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey y’all! (That is how I open every Studio Chat I post on my social Media platforms). Let me introduce myself. I’m Cindy Flynn and I’m on the web and social media as Cinflynnart. I am a creative, always have been, and I paint in oil focusing mostly in landscapes. I love painting the beauty all around and sharing it with you. I want people to stop and notice something considered so ordinary or small and really look at it until the beauty and majesty of a scene is revealed! I believe I can show my viewers the true beauty all around but often are too busy to notice. I have always been interested in drawing and would draw as I watched tv as a child. I took art classes in high school and went on to study Art Education at The University of Georgia. I’ve also studied under metal/jewelry makers and a variety of painters. I left teaching and felt called to paint. One artist, Mary Gilkerson, offered online art classes as well as ways to create oil paintings without using toxic materials. I definitely wanted to learn about ways to create a safer and healthier studio so I signed up! . I loved learning from Mary. She was a big proponent of art students and artists learning business skills and methods. She encouraged growth and ways to learn how to be a wonderful artist and an excellent business person. Mary’s influence truly helped jumpstart Cinflynnart, LLC. Mary passed away recently and her family has generously allowed her online classes to be viewed via YouTube for free. . What a gift! I am thankful for artists who are reaching back and helping other artists grow. I want to do the same! As far as my art practice goes, I paint in oils on both canvas and board. I recently created a 14 piece collection based on the mountains of the southeastern United States. I also paint with palette knife and create rich and textured paintings of landscapes all around. I have a new palette knife collection, The Garden Path, which will be released soon. I’m also offering a few prints of my original art as well as developing new prints. On top of all of that, I take commissions as well! I’m incredibly proud of my commission process. I have it clearly defined and it allows my clients to step into the process and be part of the beauty created. I love taking commissions and truly enjoy that work(can you call it work If you love it so much?!?!)!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am an artist. Saying that has taken years to overcome. I know I have talent. I have studied. I have grown. I have made mistakes and I create. However, claiming the title of artist has been difficult. Am I good enough? Can I make a living at it? It is it a valid career? My journey has allowed me to keep growing and pursuing and putting my work out in the world. I feel confident now in my ability to create and share beauty. I am an artist.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I don’t have an official business partner but there is a man behind the woman. My husband is my number one supporter and encourager. Not only is he my cheering section, he runs my website (currently in process of converting to an e-commerce site) and everything else to do with technology! I am so grateful for that support. I couldn’t have built Cinflynnart, LLC without his help.
