We recently connected with Gina Aleman and have shared our conversation below.
Gina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Brainstorming and research have been keys to successfully establishing my business. I have found that taking the upfront time to plan, research, write down ideas as they come, and revise before creating a new client offering or digital course, for example, has saved me time and hassle in the long run. This allows me more time and energy to focus on caring for my clients/families.

Gina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a mom who has experienced pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery twice, I have a love for caring for and creating resources for new mothers and their families. I’m a natural educator, having spent many years as teacher to students aged 5 to adults. I combine my educational background and my knowledge of the perinatal (pregnancy through the first year after giving birth) season to provide comprehensive birth preparation, birth support, postpartum support, lactation education, and sleep guidance to families both in my community and anywhere through digital courses. My brand has become the all-encompassing high-level and personal experience my clients and families receive when working with me.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being intuitive is a skill that is essential in guiding new families! Listening to their concerns, understanding hesitations and worries, being aware of what helps them feel supported: that intuition is so valuable.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As our world continues the move toward digital services and products, I have enjoyed recalibrating and figuring out how to recreate personal experiences in digital platforms. My courses offer access to my experience and expertise to people regardless of location. They also allow people to access the materials I have created at their convenience. It’s a joy to reach even more families through this work!
