Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ruth Gamarra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ruth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes. My whole life have been inclined towards the art and I like to transform things, so this is the perfect business that involves both. It was not easy from day one but with courage and family support I was able to grow the business.
The hardest part is to manage and train people. We are in a business industry that has no school to train people.in this field. We have to train the personnel one by one. With a lot of effort it is possible.
We are now doing one of the best High gloss sheen in the country and we have a lot of demand for our work.
Definitely I could have speed up the process. I can now tell that the personnel we hire have to like what they will be doing, have to be detail oriented and understand the concept of this business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a straighforward person, Black is black and white is white. I got interested in restoring furniture pieces because together with my husband Jorge, we saw the great potencial on so many vintage pieces. We are currently offering full service refinishing, meaning hand paint, full service stain and spray-painting in any color, any sheen.
We are the solution for so many people that like their functional pieces but want to renovate the look of them or simply restore them for many more years. We work with many Arquitects, Interior Design firms and people in general that have a piece in need of a facelift.
We provide the best customer service possible. We try to give every customer the special attention they deserve to have a great experience. We are very proud of our brand. In the Washington DC area we are known for our customer service and great crafmanship.
We are known for our good work on the finishing and refinishing field, mostly on wood surfaces like furniture pieces and kitchen cabinets, but we also offer custom built furniture pieces and upholstery services for our customers.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
In the business I am at, it is very rewarding to know that your are giving a new life to furniture pieces or kitchen cabinets that most probably were going to be in the trash field soon. We do restore them or give them a new life by totally transforming them to what the design industry demand nowaways.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Definitely to help the environment by avoiding thousands of pieces for being trash. We give them a new life and we are helping to change the concept of recycling good stuff. We are transforming furniture into a state of the art pieces.
