We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alejandro Villa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alejandro, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Theres nothing in this world i rather do than design, its always different with different problems and solutions. Even if i get a project that are similar, they all always come out in their own unique way, personalized for the customer. When i first started my own business as a designer, i had a part time job but theres nothing like sitting down concentrating with some music (Blasting Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Post Malone ) and coming up with a unique design.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started as a graphic desginer over 10 years ago, working for many companies learning the trait. The i added vinyl and sign work to my business which has grown alot over the years, having many big important customers really shows me what great work im doing. Ive won a couple awards while i was in college one being the Addy Award in 2018. I have many plans for my brand (Avilla Designs) that will expand like no other, itll be alot of work but deep down inside me thats all i want and i wont stop until i reach that goal.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Ive done many jobs for all kinds of people wether its a big job or just the simplest thing, but some of the projects that have really struck me was when a older woman asked me to try and clean up an old image of her late husband. I took on that challenge and it came out better than i even expected. When i presented her with the new image. she couldnt help it but break down into tears. This is a big part of why i do what i do. not only to show my creative talent, but to touch peoples hearts, whether its that or helping a business owner start up his/hers business by creating their own brand.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Those who know me know that Shepard Fairey is my all time favorite designer. he show cases his art everywhere wether its on the side of a building, or on a shirt, or even in a book. He has reach a different level as an artist. This is what i want for me and my brand. I want my brand to be everywhere. when people see my logo or art they know exactly who made that.
