Everyday we meet business owners, professionals, artists and creatives. Photographers, florists, realtors and more. They might come from different backgrounds, work in different industries, have varying personalities, and have vastly different income and educational profiles, but the one thing we’ve seen over and over again is that most people have a unique and special reason for why they do what they do. From a realtor helping families afford the first home he always wished for as a kid to a photographer using her skills to give a voice and face to victims who feel voiceless, we have been blown away by what happens when you just ask people a simple question – why do you do what you do?
I have a huge heart for people. I’m almost unsure if you can be in my business without having a heart for people. I got lead into starting my business by seeing so many people wanting to be comfortable learning music and also just needing help with personal issues. So God absolutely laid it on my heart to start a guitar school and adding the elements of therapy. Read more>>
Hiraya The Shop was borne out of my mission to bring Filipino craftsmanship to the global stage. I am a multi-disciplinary artist who loves to walk the line where are and fashion meet. Self-expression is an incredible form of performance art, and an incredible communication tool. Fashion is therefore an important tool for me to express myself through, and I donate a percentage of the sales from my fashion and jewelry line, Fair Sage, to those whose expression of their inner beauty makes them more vulnerable than the rest of us in our current society: the LGBTQIA+ community. Their bravery to be them selves and express their inner beauty is fundamental to all of us being able to do so. Read more>>
As a lifestyle family and newborn photographer, my mission as an artist is to create timeless imagery that allows the family to look back on each of the moments and not only remember the time, but actually feel it. I focus on finding small details and big emotions and translating them through my images, giving those findings back to my clients and hoping they can hold onto them for years to come. Read more>>
The story behind my mission is to use photography as a light to shine upon those who want to create memorable moments that can last a life time for generations to come. Thank you for asking me this important question. Our three fundamental principles that are the driving forces behind Naytra Couture were not preconceived, in fact I fell upon them as I was conceptualizing Naytra. At Naytra, we create 100% pure mulberry silk tunics, tops, blouses, and scarves based on artwork created by folk artisans dedicated to keeping the 2500-year-old folk art of Madhubani (meaning “a forest of honey”) alive. Madhubani painting is where we start at Naytra Couture. Our first principle of Women Supporting Women and supporting the female artisans begins here. Read more>>
My mission is to inspire the next generation, and to let them know to “Pursue All Your Dreams.” I’ve been fortunate to be able to serve as a mentor to many of my students. They now all call me dad, and I feel that I have been able to provide them with stability and opportunities that they needed at various times in their lives. Read more>>

I wanted to create the SayWHA Radio Network to make podcasting easier for those passionate about the art and getting their message out. When I began podcasting, back when Jesus was a boy (2011), it was extremely hard. MANY doors were slammed in my face and so many obstacles just continued to appear, but I persevered. The story behind The WEiRDO Collection amazing. So at a young age I used to be called “weird” or a “weirdo” because I didnt confide to social norms so I used to do things like wear mix match shoes or not match because no one ever told me I HAD to be a specific way or dress a certain way. Pickleballerz was created to fill multiple needs for our pickleball community here in Northern Virginia. Obviously, there was a lack of indoor pickleball when the weather isn’t very conducive to outdoor play, but even moreso was the lack of “adequate” options for pickleball all-around. Most of the courts in our area were makeshift – extra lines on tennis courts, portable nets, or lines put down on a wood gymnasium floor. Read more>>

A couple of years ago I began to feel out of or just kinda off. I’d gone to the doctor for my annual and discovered I had high blood pressure. My family has a history of heart issues so this bothered me, but I’m like I’ll just take the meds. One night my husband and I had gone out to a comedy show. Read more>>

When I was 11 years old, I lost my dad. He suffered an aneurysm and stroke. I was only in the sixth grade when he made his transition, and I had so much to learn about life. I was motivated to start It’s Seasoned because it allowed me to showcase 3 things that I love: experimenting, cooking, and helping others. As a scientist with over 5 years of lab experience I have always found myself being the ‘curious George’ in rooms where some chose to stay silent. I always wanted to know “why”, and through research, I sought out ways to tackle many challenging questions. The summer of 2018 was no different. One morning on my daily commute, I learned that the FDA recalled several batches of a drug used to treat hypertension, because it contained traces of a known carcinogen. Read more>>

Our mission can be summed up in one word: community. To expand on that, it is my goal to facilitate an inclusive space where people of all walks of life can gather, make memories, and explore their creativity. Everybody deserves to feel good in their own skin. Personally, I’ve struggled with my body image for a majority of my life – and I think I’m not alone in that sentiment. I was beautiful – and I think this occurrence happens so often in life. Read more>>

My goal is to bring history back to life. We can learn so much from our past, the good, the bad and the ugly. My main goal for Project Past is to bring you interactive and informative videos of battlefields, museums, and other places that have shaped our country. We began like any other small start-up, setting up accounts, outlining processes, mapping out goals and then going back -and-forth making changes and tweaks to each. With that in mind, we landed on three primary pillars: Have Fun. Build Community. Serve Well. Read more>>
