We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lola and Yolanda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lola and Yolanda, appreciate you joining us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
We began Pawlicious Cookies back in September 2021, and it all began with an idea. Since we noticed that there were not any healthy and non-preservative treats out there on the shelf at local pet stores, we decided to do research and began baking our own with handcrafted ingredients made from scratch. From the launch of our small business, we scaled up quickly by spreading our mission on social media and in person- “inspire all dog lovers to provide their fur babies the best non-preservative treat.” We are the first non-preservative dog treat business that is local here in Oak Cliff. What makes us unique is that we not only work one-on-one with dog parents, but we also deliver and ship our treats here in the U.S. and internationally. With our mission and dedication to spread the uniqueness of our treats, we were able to scale up quickly within a year of opening Pawlicious Cookies. This includes baking over 10,000+ treats, attending over 25 pop ups, having over 385 online sales, and being featured on a local news station. It is important to note that this success is only the beginning of our small business, our goal is to get on the shelf at the retail stores and continue to spread our mission one day at a time.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are a Latina owned, fresh, homemade, non-preservative dog treat business located here in Dallas, Texas. It is important to note that we always remember why we started our small business and why our mission is so important. With our mission in mind, we really want to make sure everyone is aware that upon ordering with us, your fur baby will receive treats that are handcrafted with ingredients from scratch. We LOVE to work one on one with dog families! What makes us unique is not only the treats we serve but also the option for fur babies to try out our treats before even purchasing from us.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We truly believe that what built our reputation within our market was our mission that is on all of our professional packaging- “inspire all dog lovers to provide their fur babies the best non-preservative treat.”
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We have all forms of communication open with us on both social media and our website! We value communication about our treats, and events we host with all of our fur baby clients.
